As a result of our telephone talk with his son Josiah '30, our own beloved Class Agent "Buck" Chandler was prodded out of his traditional New England modesty to send this brief account of the Chandler tribe, in whose accomplishments his classmates are glad to share. "Dear Ike: Here is a brief story about our family • four girls and two boys. The youngest, Joan Beer, with four children has recently returned home after two years in Algiers, preceded by four years in Turkey. The nomadic life of an oil geologist is being exchanged for the quiet of New Hampshire where Bill has bought an oil distributorship. They have found an old home in Walpole, moving in February 1 with a daughter and two sons while the oldest boy serves as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps. Next, Edith Crawford, lives in New Haven. Jack Crawford attended Dartmouth, Class '30. He retains a strong interest in alumni affairs together with his insurance business. Their oldest boy, Johnny, is married, the father of a young daughter and settled in San Diego, Calif. Jimmy Crawford is a sophomore at Colby. Next, Mary Louise Tarbell resides in Wayland with a family of three, one boy, two girls. Don Tarbell has insurance as his occupa- tion. Edith Tarbell attends Vermont Junior College, while Russell and Sally attend school in Wayland. Next, Catherine Bourne also has a home in Wayland. Earle Bourne is connected with the H. A. Johnson Co. outside of Boston. Their only daughter, Joan, is now the mother of three and lives in the suburb of Albany. David Bourne has been serving with the U.S. Air Force and is currently stationed in Spain. James R. Chandler Jr. '38 lives in Longmeadow and travels for a large plumbing supply firm. Their oldest boy James R. III is a freshman at Dartmouth. Wells and Geolfry are active boys in the Longmeadow schools. Josiah B. Chandler '30 is executive Vice President of the Connecticut Bankers Ass'n. His family has a home in West Hartford. A girl, Marie, two boys, Steve and Chris, go to nearby schools.
"As for ourselves, Marie has not been well for some months so we decided to close our Plymouth home for the winter. With two daughters in Wayland, a fine modern nursing home was found in Framingham Center. Not quite like home, but comfortable and near our children it served our purpose very well. Write me any time - Best wishes, Buck. Meadowbrook Manor, Framingham Center, Mass."
