Traditionally the indoor winter track season begins in Boston with the Knights of Columbus Track Meet in early January. This year the Massachusetts Council of the K of C announced the naming of Event Number Six in memory of one of Dartmouth's and Boston's great track athletes, the late Monty Wells '28.
The program citation that accompanied the tribute is partially quoted as follows: "E. Montgomery Wells was an intercollegiate hurdling champion at Dartmouth College. He was the winner of the high-hurdle event in this meet and in the B.A.A. games for eight consecutive years. He was a successful coach and respected member of the faculty at Brookline High School and an official who gave unselfishly of himself in the promotion of the sport he loved. His voice was heard announcing this meet for many years. To an outstanding athlete and a fine gentleman, this event is proudly dedicated.
