The notice of the passing of Henry W. Lyon on May 30 came too late to permit of checking with Mrs. Lyon before meeting the deadline for notes for the July ALUMNI MAGAZINE and there were several inaccuracies. The cause of Harry's death was bone cancer and the fall down the cellar stairs had occurred two or three years before. He had been in the Veterans' Hospital in Togus, Me., since January 6. Several news items mentioned Lafayette College but Mrs. Lyon states that he went directly to sea in sailing ships after leaving Dartmouth. He was a son of Rear Admiral Henry Lyon from whom he apparently inherited his love for the sea. For many years he was a deputy sheriff of Oxford County and most interested in law enforcement. He was active in all civic affairs in his home town, a member of the Water Commission, former fire chief and on the Selective Service Board.
