As a most delightful and prolonged "Indian Summer" extends itself over the Southeast, so the Dartmouth Alumni population continues to grow in the fair "Cracker" State of Georgia ... activities bud anew to yield fine healthy blossoms for a prosperous future ...eager eyes peeled on the engagements of the Big Green Teams...good representation for celebration of Dartmouth Night. Again, the tomahawk changes hands with a fresh band of "braves" to lead and guide Georgia tribal contributions.
Dartmouth Night was celebrated with zest and gusto on the evening of October 11. Fran and Don Evans '44 hosted the functional, and most congenial get-together, in their magnificent new home in North-west Atlanta. Midst eating, chatting, and the sipping of a brew or so, Bill Marsh '31 and Homer Rowe '26 managed to steer the 45 Dartmouth alumni, and wives, into some real fine "harmony," close and otherwise. Among the new faces at the gathering were: the Walter Bodens '55; C.C. Coffin '43; the Lou Fricks '38; Brad Foss '25, all the way from Athens, Ga.; the Forrest Jacobs '53; the Charlie Moses '38; the Dyer Talleys '44; and, the Jim Valentines '63.
The business meeting was presided over by John Granfield '46, in the absence of our good president, Dick Everett '40. High commendation was given Dick Everett for his loyal and productive attention to details, as president, during the 1962-63 term. A wire was sent to Hanover by the Georgia Club to commemorate Dartmouth Night, and a new panel of officers was elected for the 1963-64 term: President - John Granfield '46: Vice-President - Don C. Smith'53; Recording Secretary - Homer Rowe'26; Treasurer —Ed Gingrich '48; Corresponding Secretary - Dune Dobie '38. Mr. Dartmouth of Georgia, himself, Lou Fortuna '38, will continue as Governor-in-Charge of Enrollment and Enlistment activities. A committee of twenty men have been assigned to the interviewing panel to aid in this all important task.
Don C. Smith '53 gave a complete status run-down of all Georgian undergraduates who are playing football. Don has had the opportunity to see several of the Dartmouth football games, firsthand. He reports that center, Davis '65, suffered an injury in a recent game, and that among others from Georgia, John Shiver '66, is considered valuable material.
Customarily, the Dartmouth Club of Geogia holds a Holiday Luncheon, this year to be on December 26. This is designed to bring together alumni and undergraduates, and also prospective Dartmouth men, along with interested parents and friends. More definite time and facts will be forthcoming.
We all eagerly anticipate the announcement that the Dartmouth Glee Club will grace our fair city sometime during the Easter Holidays next spring. This is always a gala function.
