With great reluctance the DARTMOUTH ALUMNI MAGAZINE has accepted the resignation of Edward Connery Lathem '51 as its Literary Editor. Because of the pressure of present duties as Acting Librarian of the College, he has found it necessary to relinquish the editorial post he has filled so admirably for the past ten years.
Ed Lathem, who is Associate Librarian of the College, is now filling the top position at Baker while Librarian Richard W. Morin '24 is on leave to devote full time to a Trustees Planning Committee study of the College's libraries.
Ed Lathem not only had editorial responsibility for the "Dartmouth Authors" department of the MAGAZINE, but he either wrote or edited more than twenty major articles for us. Some of these pieces dealing with Dartmouth history and personages appeared in recent years under the heading ...And Many Dartmouth Yesterdays." It is our hope that he will be able to resume this series later on.
Everything Ed Lathem ever contributed to the ALUMNI MAGAZINE was done with painstaking care and with infallible accuracy and good taste. It is in no ordinary sense that he will be missed as a staff member.
Beginning with the January issue, the MAGAZINE'S associate editor, Raymond J. Buck Jr. '52, will have responsibility for book reviews and other contents appearing under "Dartmouth Authors."
