As a highlight of the annual Boston alumni dinner on January 31, Bill Andres '29 was honored with an Alumni Award from the Dartmouth Alumni Council. The award was made by his classmate, Council president Carter Strickland '29, who cited him as follows:
FREDERICK WILLIAM ANDRES '29
You would be the first to say that this high honor of the Dartmouth Alumni Award should be presented to someone else - you would say to many others. That would be typical of your modest reaction to any effort made in recognition of the tremendous service you have given, are giving, and will give to Dartmouth College.
A distinguished member of the Massachusetts Bar, you have since 1940 been a partner in the Boston law firm of Sherburne, Powers & Needham. You are serving many good civic causes and you are an active alumnus of Exeter Academy.
Simply to say that you are active in Dartmouth affairs would be the understatement of the year. You were secretary of your Class of 1929 for 25 years, until 1954, and since then president of the class. You have served on the Alumni Council for two different terms. You have been secretary and president of the Boston Alumni Association, where we meet to honor you now. You were regional chairman for Boston in the great Capital Gifts Campaign, and you been chairman of the Dartmouth Athletic Council.
You are a wise and welcome counselor to officers of the College on your frequent trips to Hanover. Bill Andres is a man we love to honor as we do honor him now with the Dartmouth Alumni Award.
