The Dartmouth Clubs of Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach held a combined alumni dinner on Thursday, February 28, 1963, at the South Pacific Restaurant in Hallendale, Florida, in honor of President Dickey's visit to the "Land of Sunshine." The dinner was a huge success and greatly enjoyed by all. Approximately 100 guests, including alumni, their wives, and friends of the college attended. After various and sundry Polynesian hors d'ouevres, drinks, and the entree, everyone settled back to enjoy the informal remarks of John Sloan Dickey.
President Dickey, abandoning his notes, brought the alumni up-to-date on the progress of the College and, in particular, discussed the year 1962 and its tremendous impact as a year of accomplishment in Dartmouth's history. His talk covered almost all phases of the College. The graduate schools, Hopkins Center, the 1962 football team, the new medical facilities, and prospects of Dartmouth's co-educational experiment this coming summer were the main highlights of his remarks.
All in all, I believe that the Dartmouth men of this area will long remember the visit of the President as one of the most festive and enjoyable occasions to come this way in quite a while.
