We were saddened at Christmas time by the news of the death of Bob More at his home in Shell Beach, Calif. In Memoriam will be found in this or a later issue of the MAGAZINE. The sympathy of the entire class goes to Alice and Jerry, his wife and son.
All of us rejoice with Bart and RenzaShepard that the throat operation undergone by Alan Shepard Jr., in Houston was for the removal of a non-malignant growth from his thyroid gland and that he is recuperating rapidly. The operation should have no effect on Alan's career as a flying astronaut. Their daughter Polly's husband died on December 29, 1963, in North Attleboro, Mass. Gordon Sherman had an intestinal obstruction. She and her parents have our sympathy.
Ruth and Don Cunningham plan to go to San Francisco for the Academy of Allergy meeting and will be going by a new jet, 727 Boeing, which is on its first trip. "I hope they have all the kinks out of it when it takes off," writes Don.
Via Hanover we learn that Grover Fox has retired from the Farm Journal Publishing in Philadelphia.
The 100th anniversary of the Boston Alumni Association was staged at the Stat- ler-Hilton Hotel and at the 1913 table were Bart Shepard, George Steele, Carl Shumway, Bill Davis and four 1915 men led by Dale Barker. Over 1000 attended which reminded me that when I was secretary of the Alumni Association back in the 1920's I had to sell tickets without an alumni office and there used to be 1000 at the Copley Plaza with no wives.
Our October Party at the Inn in Hanover next fall has been changed to October 11-13. Make your reservations immediately. There is no class party tax.
The October 1963 number 1 issue of The French Review published by American Association of Teachers of French contains "The Teaching of French in the United States: A History," by George B. Watts, a most interesting work, even if you do not teach French in the U.S.A. He plans another trip to France next June so will have to miss our 51st.
Bill Towler flew to Tampa to meet AndyComstock and his dog Blinky and Ambassador Joe Barnett on Dartmouth and class affairs - bequests. He stayed at that fabulous Bellevue Biltmore in Bellaire (Joe's town) managed by that good Dartmouth man, Don Church '26.
