By this time most of us have received the first contact either personally or by mail from one of a group of men who have agreed to donate their time for a good cause - the annual Dartmouth Alumni Fund. Under the direction of Terry Bentley (perhaps you have noticed his name and address recently added at the head of this column) these men are working to carry the message to each of us that Dartmouth must have the constant support of all her alumni if she is to continue to lead in the field of academic endeavor.

Many of us have had and perhaps continue to have gripes about the College. But Dartmouth stands for much more than a few personalities or unpleasant methods, and it is to these higher goals that we will be looking increasingly as the years go by. We are being asked to give for the further development of the Dartmouth ideal, and this is truly worth our support.

The month of weddings is almost upon us, and '62s are right in there making reservations for church space. Marsh Newton, currently doing grad work in chemistry at Harvard, will marry Miss Natika Waterman of the Wellesley Class of '63. June 15 it will be Dick Zartler and Miss Fran Shearer. Fran, who attended University of Florida and Katharine Gibbs, has chosen her home town of Ft. Lauderdale as the site for her wedding. Then on July 13 it will be Mrs.Frank Lena for the present Miss Mary F. Costello of Lowell, Mass. Miss Costello graduates this June from Manhattanville College of the Sacred Heart at Purchase, N. Y. Richard Cardinal Cushing will officiate at the marriage ceremony. Another summer wedding will be that of Bill Marx and Miss Judith Ann McGarry of Chatham, N. J. Presently with W. R. Grace & Co., NYC, Miss McGarry holds a B.A. cum laude from University of Minnesota. Then in the fall Bill Nevin will take himself a wife in the person of Miss Judith Erickson of Midlothian, Ill. The future Mrs. Nevin attends Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, la., while Bill is at Northwestern med school. Other engagements with no definite wedding date include those of Bill Mahaney and Miss Carol A. Neal (U. Mass. grad) both of Melrose, Mass., Buck Cass and Miss Louise Emmons (currently attending Sarah Lawrence), and Tom Parsons and Miss Jean Elizabeth Conkling (Mary Hitchcock grad).

Recent graduates of Army eight-week training courses are Lts. Cecil (the Dutchman) Holland and Hank Clarke from Ft. Sill, Okla., and Ft. Knox, Ky., respectively. Tom Moorman is a photo radar intelligence officer with the air force, and from last reports is successfully resisting the temptations of the Kansas flesh. Tom Sturgill, although serving aboard the "USS Independence," has managed to find enough time on shore to get engaged to Miss Peggy Jeanne Butler of Miami, Fla., a student at Vanderbilt. The wedding will be in June. ChuckPreuss and John Stevens returned recently from Guantanamo Bay aboard the "USS Intrepid." Chuck, who took the Marine option in NROTC to stay away from ships, is stationed aboard the "Intrepid." John is operating out of a "Snake Ranch" in Virginia Beach, known as 8500 Ocean Front.

Another of my errors came filtering back to me, this time from "Jon Fairbank. He is in Norway and not England as reported earlier, studying at Nansenskolen, the Norwegian Humanistic Academy in Lillehammer. a small town resembling Hanover, according to Jon. By our time of publication Jon will be enjoying a trip through Europe via thumb, returning home by June 12.

We predicted pretty well in the January issue. Robert Bradley Sadd made his appearance January 22. This Dartmouth '85 showed up with the same blue eyes of mom and pop Bill and Barb Sadd, but with distinctly red hair. Thus, the Tuck school bookies, laying 10 to 1 odds for blue eyes-blond hair, were thoroughly devastated. Other recent additions to the '62 family are a daughter. Feb. 16 to Mr. and Mrs. Dave Laing, and a son, March 9, to Mr. and Mrs. DavePritchard.

We received a very fine letter from DaveWard, discussing an eventful summer working in Turkey through the AIESEC program. Dave was with an agency dealing with hazel nuts, not an item of world-shaking proportions, but one which made it possible for him to move around a lot and learn a great deal. He finished the summer with a tour of other Middle East countries.

Another letter was from Jim Page, studying economics at Christ College, Oxford. He and wife Sandy took part in a Theta Delt reunion at Zurs, Switzerland, where Jim was representing Oxford in the annual Oxford-Cambridge-Trinity College, Dublin ski meet. Joining them were CharlieNeuhardt, AI James, and Pete Carothers '57. Jim O'Brien traveled with the Pages part way on his trip to a youth gathering in Poland. Never a dull moment, from the sound of Jim's letter.

Steve Reid is working for his Master's in business on a co-op program, spending one semester at the U. of Michigan and the next with Ford Motor Co.

Bouquets to Ken Bailes, Dale Carr, and Bill Hjortsberg. Ken has received a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship for graduate study in history. The generous fellowships were awarded to 1,475 promising students interested in entering college teaching. Dale received an honorable mention from the same group. Bill's story "Sometimes Horses Don't Come Back" is included in "Prize College Stories, 1963," published April 16 by Random House. One of 17 chosen from over 400 entries, the story won the Grimes Prize at Dartmouth and also honorable mention in the Sidney Cox Memorial Prize Competition.

And now for some bits and pieces. SteveLasser is reportedly doing well at Chicago med school, and he's in love. Dave andLinda Bergman are in- Hanover while Dave attends the med school. A new member of the family is expected soon. John Hornbeck is working at the Oldsmobile assembly line in East Lansing, Mich., and expects to enter law school soon. Walt Goedkoop discovered that after four years in Hanover not only had his English deteriorated, but his Dutch as well. Dave Gundy is at Cornell med school finding things a little more difficult than he had expected. John Mussman is in Army training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., for six months before returning to Pittsburgh and training in the steel industry. After teaching at Medford (Mass.) High School first semester, Jim Lemen is attending classes at Harvard for his Master's in teaching. He and wife Carole expect their addition in June or July. The last few items are compliments of the Beta '62 newsletter, a sometime publication produced by Mr.and Mrs. Beaver Wilkinson. Direct letters to them for further details.

Don't forget the Alumni Fund. We've got a fair goal set for us, and there's no reason why we can't make it.
