Having lost his top three players from the 1962 team, Coach Red Hoehn has moved his fourth through sixth-ranked players into these top positions and with good results. The three include Dave Smoyer, Doug Floren, and John Morrison in that order. The next three ranked players, as of this writing, are Doug Judah, Tuck Mays, and Ed Miller. With over a week still remaining before matches resume, the team is going through some challenge competition, which could change the eventual starting line-up against Williams and Columbia.

There are a number of other men who could break into the starting team, if not in singles competition, then in doubles: Ren Carlisle, Wally Lord, Sven Karlen, Whit Foster, and Gerard Dericks, to name just the top contenders.

In the South the Green recorded victories against North Carolina State 9-0 and George Washington 8-1. They lost to Duke, twice to North Carolina, and to Navy and Michigan State.
