Two seniors, Frank H. Wohl of Ogden, Utah, and Steven P. Kessler of New York City, brought new championship laurels to Dartmouth by winning the National Debate Tournament at West Point and the Sigurd S. Larmon ('14) Trophy, symbol of the triumph, for the second time in the past four years. Dartmouth defeated co-finalist University of Minnesota in the concluding event of a season-long elimination that involved more than 600 colleges and universities. The 35-man Dartmouth debating team in preparing for the season's issue: "Resolved: That the Non-Communist Nations of the World Should Establish an Economic Community," digested more than 200 books and 10,000 articles and transcribed notes and facts on some 6,000 evidence cards. Kohl and Kessler debated the affirmative in the finals, although during the course of the season they've been on the other side many times too. At the Forensic Union celebration the championship pair gave credit for the triumph to their coach, Prof. Herbert James.
