Our executive committee meeting Brown weekend brought a good turnout in wonderful autumn weather. Attending were George Munroe, Bus Mosbacher, Paul Young, Jack Meleney, Jim Elleman, Bob Field, Charlie Dittmar, Bob Gray, Ed Lider, Don Reich, and Jim Capps. After a brief business meeting, we dedicated the reflecting pool and fountain as the setting for the 1943 War Memorial sculpture of T. B. Huxley-Jones. The sculpture, a standing female, was delayed in transit from England, but on arrival will complete a beautiful memorial located on the busy walk between the Hanover Inn and Hopkins Center, where undergraduates pass several times daily en route to the mail center.
T. B. Huxley-Jones, renowned for fountain sculptures of Great Britain, set the statue in a 5' by 23' reflecting pool containing three fountain sprays. A bronze plaque identifies the memorial as the "Gift of the Class of 1943 in memory of our classmates who gave their lives in defense of our freedom: 1942-45." Next spring we shall photograph the completed memorial and publish it with this column. Classmates honored are: Walter T. Anderson, Cedar Grove, N. J.; Ambrose F. Broughton Jr., Arlington, Mass.; John F. Bushnell, Delray Beach, Fla.; William W. Cabell, Richmond, Va.; John H. Card Jr., Holbrook, Mass.; Fred M. Carey, West Hartford, Conn.; Emmett T. Corrigan, Great Neck, L.I., N. Y.; Remsen H. R. Crego, Yeadon, Pa.; Donald J. Harty, Buffalo, N. Y.; Robert H. Hobart, Evanston, Ill.; Lloyd S. Holton, Toledo, Ohio; Henry P. Smith, Kansas City, Mo.; Arthur H. Stein Jr., Albany, N. Y.; Wtflard E. Tostman, Hollis, N. Y.; George C. Westerlind, Baltimore, Md.; and Warren B. Williams, Wallingford, Conn.
The Hanover ceremony plus the deaths of Ernest Martin Hopkins and composer Cole Porter reminded me that Amby Broughton classified Hopkins, Porter, and Broughton as the three greatest alumni of Worcester Academy — in that order.
To Paul Young we are indebted for the construction and location of the Memorial. He is indeed a friend in court. Ruth and he beautifully entertained the class for cocktails after the game in what has become an annual affair. Surprise of the year is their indoor swimming pool almost completed (one of two in Hanover) - and that's a status symbol hard to touch in Hanover or anywhere else. Couldn't happen to a nicer couple.... Andy Caffrey and Phil Harmon joined us at the Youngs.
Bob Krumm has been elected chairman of the New York group, Investment Bankers Association of America, at its recent annual meeting. Red is vice president of W. H. Morton & Co., lives in Chatham, N. J., somehow finds time for golf and skiing and numerous club activities. We had hoped he would attend the fall reunion.
