Either the plea for communications which was made several months ago has had some effect, or the class notes have gotten so bad that some of our classmates have taken it upon themselves to write to me in the hope that there will be an improvement. In any event, I am delighted and I hope that this indicates a new trend among 48'ers.

Bob Cormack, who is living in Stamford, Conn., has sent a message, which I quote in its entirety, "NO COED." Last we knew he was with IBM in New York City.

Bob Herrick recently wrote an informative letter concerning his activities during the past few years. He has been sales manager of Alfred M. Lewis, Inc., whole- sale grocers, since 1966. Daughter Melissa is going to Smith next fall so Bob is hoping to make a Hanover football game. He has been in San Diego for over ten years and is now a "native" Californian. The climate is one of the things Bob likes best about the area. Having been active in the La Jolla Rotary Club, alumni activities, other service organizations, the Church and the Chamber of Commerce, he is semi-retired from most of these and spends his time on the job or on one or two activities in which he can be both active and effective. Bob is hoping to make Hanover in 1973—with a little luck maybe we can get him to run for secretary again!

Also good to hear from Gene Finke who is in Saigon as senior naval advisor to the Vietnamese Navy. Gene has been there for almost two years and indicates it has been fascinating to watch the Navy grow and develop from 17,000 men to almost 40,000. Bette is living in the Philippines at Clark Air Force Base with other wives whose husbands are also in Vietnam and Manages to keep up with her golf game. Gene gets to Clark occasionally, but expects to be in the Saigon area until June. He would like to hear from any Dartmouth men in the area—telephone Tiger 3716.

A note from Bill Campbell advises he is alive and well and living in Cohasset. Bill works in Boston and New York as vice president of Stock Brokers Register—a personnel consulting agency. Wife Jean was Holyoke '47, daughter Sharon will be Holyoke '73, and daughter Sheila, Holyoke '74! Their son Gordon is a high school freshman and hasn't settled on a college as yet.

Another '48 in the Far East is DaveWalsh. Dave is stationed at the U.S. Embassy in Seoul and is looking forward to spring when he will be transferred to Saigon. Cynthia and the children will be in Australia while Dave is in Vietnam. Between Korea and Vietnam he expects to spend some time on the sunny beaches of Hawaii and the sunny shores of the Charles River in Boston. He ought to have a chance to catch up with Gene Finke in Saigon before June.

Jim Schaefer wrote me a much appreci- ated letter giving a good amount of news. The committee planning the 25th reunion met recently in N.Y.C. John Van Raalte, hardworking class president, reported that Dick Barlow is making progress on another great job as reunion chairman. JimRandolph, publisher of "Business Week" who will be in charge of the class book was present, also Bobo Russell and JohnHa the way. John Hatheway was recently chairman of the Alumni Council nominating committee for the three newest college trustees. Jim has just recently finished a two-year term as president of the Dartmouth Club of New York. He requested that those of us who visit the big city stop by the club for lunch or a drink as they can always use the support. Jim and family recently found the pollution index in N.Y.C. unsatisfactory and moved to Chatham, N.J. He hopes to spend more time there in the future than he has been able to do in the past. For the past two years he has been very busy as a result of assisting in reestablishing a sales promotion agency called "The DR Group." They have the largest direct mail advertising creative staff in the country. Maybe we could use their assistance on the alumni notes!

Thanks again to the field correspondents!
