Does the government's threat to restrict the sale of remedies for the common cold mean the return of Prohibition? (Which may or may not have any bearing on cigarette smoking!)
Joe Harris says San Diego's navel oranges are really big and delicious and warrant a jaunt down there for a "look-see." "Like others, you may stay." Are those lush oranges responsible for the success of the San Diego Chargers football team, Joe?
Voyle Rector, out in Pasadena, comes up with a pencil sketch which he labels "my best art creation about myself so far." And then comes a painting kit with a creditable painting over the signature VDR! What gives, young feller - aiming at a spot in Hopkins Center?
Art Ford warns that once you acquire a dog, "the dog will own you just as much as you own the dog"! Guess we'll have to wait until we graduate from a three-room city apartment, Art!
A lovely Hula maiden adorns a picture card from the Marv Fredericks in Hawaii late in December. Marv says. "Temperature ranges from 69 to 81 degrees - ocean fine for swimming - entertainment features very interesting (see Hula maiden) —we move on to Fiji and New Zealand in few days." No comment!
"Misery may love company but it's better to have rheumatism in one leg than in two"!
A news clipping pictures Chan Foster's son-in-law, Donald B. Russell, recently elected vice president and general manager of Boston Tow Boat Co.
One of the comments on 1915's birthday card - "You certainly have a good artist on your staff". Take a bow, Art Sterling!
Our roving reporter says that the missing "Donder and Blitzen" were made up for by '13ers Warde Wilkins, George Steele, Bart Shepard, Carl Shumway, and '15ers DaleBarber, Nut Norwood, Eben Clough and Duze Lounsberry at Purcell's Lunch Club in Boston during the Holidays.
A snapshot of Eben Clough is too good to be tucked away without a note to the rest of our clan. I wish the colors in it could be reproduced - dark gray topper, lighter gray jacket, red striped tie, surrounding the rosy visage, against the green door background with darker green sprays of evergreen and bright red bell tinklers. No wonder wife Margie holds her head high! We salute one of the most loyal and active workers for the cause of Dartmouth and 1915! And Eben adds this quip for the column: "Who gave you the black eye? Nobody, I had to fight for it!"
Bill and Jean Reynolds heighten our envy with a lush picture of the Villas at Florida's Pompano Beach. Delayed several days by storms in the North, they flew down in midJanuary, planning to stay the rest of the winter. They recall with pleasure the Interim of last October.
We are sorry to learn of the sudden death in January of Mrs. Al Priddy at her winter residence in Brookline, Mass. Active in many women's organizations, she was past president of the Dartmouth Women's Club of Boston.
A note from Zeke Carpenter says he and Lib are enjoying the weather in Palm Beach very much. He wonders how I remember so many birthdays - I sometimes wonder myself!
Judging by the echoes, the 100th Anniversary of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Boston at the Hotel Statler Hilton on January 22 was a humdinger, with something around 1000 in attendance. Wives were included and I understand the traffic was terrific. 1915's "motherly instinct" stayed home, however, figuring perhaps they'd later get a matinee thrown in on another outing, so '15ers Kike Richardson, Dale Barker,Russ Rice, Ed Dewing, Eben Clough and Sid Bull teamed up with the usual '13 cluster in table arrangements. I am told the Glee Club's renditions were quite nostalgic of the days of yore and a rousing time was had by all.
As we all know, the Princeton game is to be held in Hanover this fall, October 10. The demand for accommodations being what it is, it appears that everything within 40 miles of Hanover is already sold out. For what it may be worth at this late date, reservations were still possible (late in January) at Shaker Bridge Motel, Enfield, N. H.
