Tom Curtis and Bob Ryan, along with Sylvester "Pat" Weaver '30, represented Dartmouth with distinction by handily defeating a Marquette team on January 26 in a TV quiz program entitled "Alumni Fun" and hosted by Clifton Fadiman. Subject matter covered ranged from Mother Goose rhymes to Shakespeare quotations. Our team was especially good with the rapid recall and thus earned a contribution to the Alumni Fund.
Chuck Hall came through with some snapshots of the May 1930 style show featuring shorts. As common as shorts are now, it's difficult to recall the publicity hut the newsreels and papers made a big thine out of it. Chuck is active m church and YMCA affairs, plans to visit Hawaii in June and return to Los Angeles for the Kiwanis convention since he will be president of the Cleveland Heights Club next year His older son is a teacher, and his younger son is a junior at Bowling Green State University.
Gordon Lane was in Washington, D. C., representing the Vermont State Highway Department at a national conference of the Highway Research Board. Hoof reports that he is in Hanover frequently for football games or to visit the Hopkins Center that he has two grandchildren and that his' work primarily involves the construction of Vermont's part of the new interstate highway. Hard to imagine my hitherto "unspoiled" home state with 300 miles of Ike's Pike but maybe the present-day Dartmouths would prefer a superhighway ride up to Stowe for the skiing.
Dick Merrill has recently retired as president of one of New Hampshire's larger dairies, following a heart attack. We hope that he will soon be able to resume his recreational trips to Europe, as well as his business activities.
Bill Lieson's directorship-of-the-month: Popular Markets, Inc. His total number as of January 2 - five. Any one else care to get into this race?
George Hahn, our Philadelphia gynecologist, continues to gain recognition in his field. He was promoted to Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Jefferson Medical College last summer; was made Honorary Fellow of the Nassau (N. Y.) O & G Society; was appointed North American chairman of the Pan American Medical Association; was made an associate examiner for the American Board of O & G. (Do we have an androcologist among our classmate medicos? That's what we need more of about now.) George reports on his daughters: Ann and Wissa at Columbia School of Nursing, Cynthianna with the Greenwich, Conn., YWCA, and Doretta at Katharine Gibbs School in Boston. Son Alan, a high school senior, is on wrestling team, captains cross country and hopes to be accepteed at Dartmouth. George's wife, a school nurse, is taking courses at St. Joseph's College.
We are sorry to report the deaths of Howard Elliot, Wilfred Hand and RobertMorrison. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to their families.
Special note to our medicos on bacterial endocarditis: I'm now taking 48 250 mg. Polycillin (ampicillin) capsules a day, which is supposed to clear things up in a week or so. Bristol. Labs will get a special report.
"Remember, Mortimer - there are no small actors, only small parts." The first of you who identifies the source of that priceless little line will receive special men- tion for knowledge of esoteric American literature.
