Miss Cynthia S. Gilbert, Vassar '62, and John F. Kennison, son of Dr. Lawrence G. and Jean Kennison, will be married June 27 at Old Sturbridge Village, Sturbridge, Mass. Their daughters, Jane, Hope, and Anne, will be bridesmaids. Larry, an ardent mathematician from way back, has spent his lifetime teaching math on the college level. He has been on the faculty at Brooklyn College since 1932. Larry writes "I am a lot grayer than I used to be and need my glasses more than I did. Otherwise, I'm about the same and not in too bad shape for an old math professor."
We note with sorrow the death on February 5 of our classmate, John GilmanRoberts who died at his home in Wyoming, Pa. Further details appear in the "In Memoriam" column of this or a subsequent issue. We must also report the death on April 2 of our classmate, James A. Dudley Ripley who died of a heart attack while playing golf. An "In Memoriam" notice, written by his close friend, J. Branton Wallace, will be found in this or a subsequent issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE.
It is with extreme sadness that we must also report the sudden death on March 17 of Dorothy R. McClintock, wife of our ever-popular Richard (Wee) McClintock. Dorothy died at the Sheraton Commander Hotel, Cambridge, Mass., where she and Wee had been living for a month while waiting for the parsonage of St. James' Episcopal Church (Somerville) to be completed for them. Dot was always very active in 1926 affairs. She leaves three children and five grandchildren. "Wee" and son Sandy are now living at 51 Curtis Street, Somerville, Mass.
ANNIVERSARIES:
Fred A. Cadmus joined the actuarial division of Metropolitan Life Insurance Company 38 years ago next month. During the past few years Fred has had much to do with the introduction of Electronic Data Processing and the installation of several Univac Computer Systems. Fred and Mary recently celebrated their 33 rd wedding anniversary. Address: 108 Hawthorne Ave., Glen Ridge, N. J.
Active in banking for 41 years, JuilliardH. Blicke, president of the Bucyrus (Ohio) City Bank, has just been appointed for a three-year term to the Ohio Banking Advisory Board by Governor Rhodes. Juil and Evalyn will celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary on June 19 when they move into a new home now being completed at 217 Home Circle Drive, North Bucyrus. Their son William is assistant cashier of the Bucyrus City Bank — the same job which Juil held some 30 years ago. He writes "Evalyn and I are very fortunate having our three children all married and living in Bucyrus, and are blessed with nine fine grandchildren." Quite a family! Juil says he occasionally sees Russ Webster of Columbus.
Word comes through from Kansas City, Mo., that Frederic "Pete" Barnes is rounding out 38 years in the stock exchange brokerage business. Since 1943 he has been a partner in the firm of H. O. Peet & Company which has branch offices in Omaha, Neb., and Kansas City, Kan. An eight-page special supplement of the March 1 issue of "The Kansas City Star" gives us the highlights of this firm which has a staff of 34 registered representatives in addition to the eight general partners. Pete now heads up the entire organization as Managing Partner. He is ably assisted by his partner, son Peter, Dartmouth '57, and by his son Bryant, Dartmouth '60, who is in the cashier's depart- ment. Pete and Margaret, married in 1932, are the proud grandparents of two granddaughters. Address: 23 West 10th Street, Kansas City, Mo.
There was cause for much celebration in Concord, N. H., three months ago when the insurance agency of Morrill & Everett celebrated its one hundredth anniversary. Founded in 1864, with an office in the State Block, the agency is still flourishing in the same building where it started a century ago. Much of its success during the past 38 years can be attributed to Doug Everett who joined the firm in 1926 and who, since 1952, has been president of the agency. Doug is also chairman of the board of the New Hampshire Savings Bank and a director of the Concord National Bank, and active in other civic affairs. Doug has six associates in the insurance agency; one of whom is his son, Edward F., '54.
The third generation is gradually taking over the active day-to-day management of William E. Bixby & Co., Inc. founded by the first Bixby generations in 1874. G. HenryBixby has just completed 38 years in the various family companies allied to shoe manufacturing. He and his brother, Chesley, secretary of the class of 1923, head up the family enterprises with factories in Haverhill and Lynn, Mass.; Auburn, Me.; and North Arlington, N. J. But much help now comes from the third generation - George III, Dartmouth '57, Tuck '59, son-in-law (Mary's husband) David Lamb, and nephew Benjamin, also Dartmouth '57. Henry and Margaret, married 33 years ago this month, have just returned from a "Spring Adventure Cruise" on the M.S. Kungsholm to Spain, France, Holland, Southern England, Wales, and Scotland. Address: 15 Talmouth Ave., Haverhill, Mass.
Class Agent,
Don't wait any longer before making your reservations at the Hanover Inn, or elsewhere, for our 1964 Informal Reunion scheduled for the weekend of August 21-23. With the Alumni College in full swing (several of our classmates have registered) and much Shakespeare activity at Hopkins Center, it promises to be the best yet. And to top it off, Ed and Peggy Emerson have again graciously invited all of us to their summer farm, "Hyla Brook," in South Reading or Proctorsville, Vt., for a buffet lunch on Saturday. Enough said!
The Golden Anniversary Alumni Fund Campaign closes June 30. Time is running fast. Mail your contribution, or an additional contribution, today to carry 1926 beyond our goal of $43,990. Your help is needed to keep Dartmouth strong today, stronger tomorrow! Read Gordon Chipman's "Smoke Signals" for the latest progress reports.
Time out now for a breather! This concludes our class notes for the current academic year. But you will have more 1926 class "news and notes" starting with the October issue of this magazine. Until then, Happy Vacations to you all.
