'Don't miss the first fall mini of the millennium. We've got the Yale game, and the weekend activities begin with an afternoon hike on Thursday, October 5. Bob Miller, who will lead the hiking enthusiasts, is flying in from San Diego two days early to "forerun" several trails and make a choice. He'll meet all you nature-walk lovers at the golf course clubhouse at 2 p.m.
As this is written in June, Stan Barr reports that 175 contributors have donated more than $24,000 to the Fritz Hier Memorial Alcove Fund, a fitting tribute to a super fine person. Friends and admirers of Fritz will attend the dedication of the alcove and the Class of 1944 Place at 9 a.m. on Friday, October 6.
Penn Frost, a relative newcomer to the Internet, has volunteered to compile an e-mail roster of'44s, so you guys can communicate expeditiously—like who's going to be where and when and could get together with you to raise a glass. Send your address along to pennfrost@arthlink.net.
Penn plans to attend a cyberspace workshop at the College in September. Keeping the ever-growing list of Dartmouth alumni e-mail addresses private, and away from those aggressive Internet marketers, will be an important seminar topic.
Throughout a distinguished medical career, teaching and practicing surgery, Bill Stahl has regularly played sax and clarinet with bands and symphonies. The Westchester Saxophone Quartet, which he founded, performs at both classical and jazz concerts, and the Wednesday Night Big Band makes like Benny Goodman, playing benefit performances. Recently, Bill's wife, Pat, said performing three nights a week was too much, so he's cut back to two! (After all, they have seven children and seven grandchildren to keep up with—like joining them for weekends at their A-frame near Haystack Mountain in Vermont.)
Lets give a farewell salute to two '44s who represented our class so well in the Hanover community: Russ Burdge and Jack Stephenson. Both of these fine gentlemen contributed greatly to the success and camaraderie of reunions and minis.
