Although our year of organized activities is at an end, it by no means faded away into the summer, but rather went out with much noise and a flurry of activity. The highlight of the entire year came along with the persons of President John Dickey and Ed Chamberlain '36 when they visited Hartford on April 22. The Hartford Golf Club was the scene of a remarkably fine enrollment workshop, and luncheon with a question and answer period for school principals, headmasters, and guidance counselors throughout the area. Although in many instances Ed Chamberlain found himself addressed as "Dear Former Friend" since the time was a few days after acceptance and rejection notices were made, nevertheless he found many still on speaking terms in the form of excellent discussion questions. The public relations value of the luncheon was valuable indeed. Our thanks to Ed Perrin '38 for the organization of same.
Later in the evening, high over night-time Hartford, a cocktail hour and a supper reception was held to meet and hear President Dickey address us on the many facets of the College, Upwards of 230 people crowded the 17th floor of 100 Constitution Plaza to peer out at the city, enjoy the excellent catered meal and relax while the President brought us up to date on affairs of Dartmouth. A Wah Hoo Wah for Dave Neiditz '52 for a fine day.
Officers for the coming year were also elected the same evening and consisted of: Richard M. Page '54, president; Edwin T. Rice '52, vice-president; R. Nelson Jones '55, vice-president; Richard A. Watson '59, secretary; Brinton T. Schorer '36, assistant to secretary; Raymond B. Woolson Jr. '55, treasurer.
On a warm, bright May 3, Hartford again hosted the annual Dartmouth-Yale rugby match at the Farmington Polo Club. Although spirits were high and the crowd enthusiastic, Dartmouth was somehow soundly beaten by a score of 13 to 3. The toll now stands at 3-2 in favor of the Green. Hank Greer '61 was general chairman and deserves much praise for hours of sweat and blood. At any rate although all expenses aren't yet in, it looks like a good sum is now on its way into our scholarship fund.
While on the subject of scholarships, it has been announced that one Walter Richter '68 of New Britain will be the recipient of Hartford's first full fledged scholarship. The award of $1,000 for each of four years was announced too late to be mentioned at the Dickey Dinner, but Walter was there and seemed to enjoy his first glimpse of Dartmouth from an alumni party point of view. We have in Walt a fine all-around athlete, and excellent scholar, and above all a gentleman who we are sure will well represent our area through his stay in Hanover. Congratulations and good luck, Walt!
In conclusion, President Dick Page '54 has asked me to pass along his sincere thanks for the hours of effort expended by many in our club throughout the year. Through these efforts we feel a very successful year has passed.
