Robert N. Stevens '27 (r) was saluted as Class Chairman of the Year at the annual May gathering of the Dartmouth class officers in Hanover. His outstanding service was described by Secretary of the College Sidney C. Hayward '26 in the following citation:
Following graduation from Dartmouth, three members of the Class of 1927 made a cattleboat trip to Europe - Brick Stone, Nick Zarro, and you. Traveling on a shoestring, you all got work with General Motors in Belgium which led to life careers in foreign posts for all of you with G. M. Export. You moved out of Southeast Asia a few minutes ahead of the Japanese at the start of the War and later served many years as manager for General Motors in France and as President of the Dartmouth Alumni Club there.
Getting back to this country, you became chairman of '27 seven years ago. Now in your second five-year term of leadership of the class, your splendid work has placed 1927 at the top. Just one example — '27 has placed first the past two years in its Green Derby group of the Alumni Fund.
You have started and are perfecting a strong regional organization of the class. This culminated in January with such a turnout of classmates from New York and New England at the 100th Anniversary Banquet of the Boston Alumni Association as to win the trophy for largest class attendance at the dinner.
Annually your class holds well-attended fall reunions in Hanover, with a business meeting when each officer reports on his work over the previous year. In the emergency of needing a Class Agent to lead the important 50th Anniversary Campaign of the Alumni Fund, you have stepped into the job yourself to secure the best possible achievement from '27.
For all that you have done and are doing for your class and for the College, we are delighted to award you this top honor as Dartmouth Class Chairman of the Year.
