After having taught at the University of Illinois for 27 years, Pa Holt has retired. Upon graduating from Dartmouth he went on to Harvard Law School from which he graduated in 1920. Then, after practicing law in Boston for seven years, he returned to Harvard to earn his S.J.D. in 1928. At that point he settled down to teaching law at Illinois. Throughout his 37 years in the academic world, Pa has distinguished himself as a scholar and teacher. He has contributed articles to numerous law reviews and served as Illinois annotator of the Restatement of Contracts. His popularity as a teacher has been unrivalled, and his students for many years have affectionately awarded him the title of "Lord Holt." Pa and his wife now make their home at 67 Lincoln Ave., Gardiner, Me., and it is hoped that they have many years of happiness there.

Another classmate has left us - this time Francis C. Reagan who died suddenly at his home at Mont Vernon, N. H. Frank went on from Dartmouth and received an Ed.M. degree from Boston University. He had been with the Probation Department since it was organized in 1937, and had been its .director for four and a half years. The sympathy of all 17ers has been extended to Mrs. Reagan.

Angus Black married Mrs. Gladys Jackson of Jaffrey, N. H., on July 3. The former Mrs. Jackson is an old friend of Belle's and Angus'. They will reside in Jaffrey. Congratulations to both Angus and Gladys! May they have many happy years ahead!

Will and Nina Fitch and Vic and IreneSmith were at Hanover during June to attend a meeting of the Alumni Council. On their way to Hanover, Vic and Irene stopped by here for a few minutes.

And speaking of Vic Smith, he was not at the Class Officers meeting at Hanover in May, and for a very good reason. He had always said that on his 75th birthday he would relinquish the reins at Victor C. Smith, Inc. And that's just what he did, and on May 7, at Rolling Green Country Club, Springfield, Pa., he was given a testimonial dinner in recognition of his 75th birthday and his relinquishment of the presidency of the company he had founded. All of the company employees and their wives, some former employees, many heads of companies and representatives from the home offices of firms with which Vic had been associated over the years, were there, as were most of his family. From now on Vic will have the title of Chairman of the Board, and will devote about three days a week to the company as a consultant. To those of you who sent birthday cards or other messages, some 75 of you, Vic thanks you most kindly!

Ralph Sanborn, chairman of the State Historical Commission of New Hampshire since it was created by the Legislature in 1961, has resigned. A couple of quotes from an editorial which appeared in the "Hampton Union" on July 22, will show you with what high regard Ralph was held, "We have no reservation at all in observing that the establishment of the Commission would have been quite meaningless even unto this day had it not been for the installation of Mr. Sanborn as its first chairman." And again, "Be that as it may, it is with a note of regret and yet of full understanding that we have read of Mr. Sanborn's resignation as Historical Commission Chairman. As he concludes his duties we who are his neighbors and can testify to the depth of his interest in our past can proudly observe that he has established himself as the alpha of the official custodian of the historic treasures of a colony and state without which there might have been no history of American independence."

Spique and Ruby Maclntyre and Don andMarion O'Leary attended a Dartmouth Horizons program at Hanover during May. All four of them were greatly impressed by what they heard and saw, and spoke most eloquently of the program as a whole. The Brookses had luncheon with the O'Learys at the conclusion of the program.

Gil Swett was the only 17'er to attend this year's session of Alumni College. He reports having had his ears really pinned back!

Rumor has it that Vin Smith has remarried, but to whom or when or where is not known at this writing.

Trennie and Dorothy Trenholm came to Hanover during June and brought Derrill Jr. '40 with them to attend his 25th reunion. Derrill Jr. is a Lt. Col. in the Air Force and is stationed in Omaha.

Mott and Fran Brown are at Chatham on the Cape enjoying a long vacation. All of their grandchildren will have been there. Seven in all, and that's a goodly number to have at one time! But Mott reports that all had a good time.
