Dartmouth alumni from the Dayton, Ohio, area mixed baseball and beer on Friday, September 10, at their annual picnic, held this year as last at the farm of SamMcCray '34.

The get-together, held in conjunction with the Dayton Princeton Club, was highlighted by a softball game between alumni of the two schools, refreshments and dinner, and a post-dinner song fest.

Approximately 75 people were on hand for the gathering which got underway at 5 P.M. While wives looked on, alumni battled in a softball game which had Princeton scoring in double figures in the top half of the fifth inning only to have their effort nullified by darkness which caused the score to revert to the last full inning, thereby leaving the outcome in doubt.

Following dinner, Bob Davidson '39 acted as Master of Ceremonies for a song fest in which Dartmouth and Princeton men and their wives took part. Voting to determine the recipient of an unusual trophy, awarded for the best group singing effort, ended, as did the Softball game, in dispute. Bob, in a diplomatic fashion, solved the controversy by splitting the bronze cup, giving one half to the Princeton group and one half to the wives, with the Big Green singers glumly looking on.

Special thanks go to Sam McCray '34 and his wife Marianna, on whose wonderful grounds the picnic was held. This was the second year that Sam has made his facilities available, and the alumni of the area are extremely grateful.

Co-chairmen of the picnic were CraigHarlan '59, vice president of the Dayton Dartmouth Alumni, with an assist from Bud Welch '44, and Princeton's Doug Yeager. Other Dartmouth alumni officers in the area who worked on the outing included President Fred Huntley '42, Treasurer BruceJump '57, and Secretary Syd Gross '53.
