The three four-story dormitories built in 1961 and known informally as "the Wigwams" are getting permanent names. The College will honor three distinguished alumni by giving their names to these dormitories at dedication ceremonies on January 15.
Located west of Thayer School of Engineering on the bluff above the Connecticut River, on the site of the former Wigwam Circle for married students, the three dormitories are being named McLane Hall, French Hall, and Hinman Hall. The central dormitory is being dedicated in honor of John R. McLane '07 of Manchester, N. H.; the south dormitory for Edward S. French '06 of Springfield, Vt.; and the north one for John H. Hinman 'OB of Pelham, N. Y.
The three alumni are being honored for their achievements in their chosen fields and for their service to Dartmouth over the years. Two, McLane and French, are former Trustees of the College, and all three have received Dartmouth Alumni Awards.
