A painting by Esteban Vicente, "The Yellow World" (1958), has been presented to the Dartmouth art collection by Mr. and Mrs. William B. Jaffe of New York City. Remarkably decorative, this large contemporary work is a fine example of the artist's gift for using color as a form of direct communication. Like the worker in stained glass, this Spanish-born painter creates an immediate impression of calm and luminosity. Although Vicente belongs to the New York School of abstract artists, he is often referred to as a lyrical abstract-Expressionist.
