JUNE 1965 JILDO CAPPIO, ALBERT C. BONCUTTER

This year has been too fast, as years get to be. The cards that you have sent back have been good, but more of you could have answered. If something you sent fell out, I'm sorry. The cards you still have can be used.

Now I'll give you the Cappio card: "Jane is happy as high school freshman. Jill - sophomore at Mary Washington College - planning August marriage to Marine lieutenant, U. of South Carolina graduate. Jim '63 going to U. of Virginia graduate school business administration in September. Anne continues to teach grades 3-4. I'm overbusy as Assistant Director, Neighborhood Youth Corps, U.S. Department of Labor." Secretary's analysis: acceptable for data for the "society" section but where is the cogent comment for the editorial page?

Sheldon Reed (my only double classmate, including Montpelier High '28 — we attended his father's 25th reunion) updates the record: "The Reeds are all in excellent condition - oldest boy graduated from Harvard and enters U. of M. Medical School this fall. Daughter (17) enters Cornell University this fall, omitting the senior year of high school. Last boy (14) looks like a future chemistry major if he doesn't blow himself up first. Elizabeth and I have just published a 719-page book on 'Mental Retardation: A Family Study.' " (I'll say it for you - the book is obviously not a study of the Reeds.)

Milt Alpert writes enthusiastically that his son Bruce Stephen has been accepted for the Class of '69. (Congratulations: the sweating out period for such acceptances is increasingly tough these days, and the relief is great.) Milt reports further that his daughter Helen (Mrs. Harvey Goldenberg) is graduating from Brandeis in June. Milt continues as counsel to the New York State Office for Local Government, where he is now heavily engaged in the problem of reapportionment as it relates to the legislative bodies of local governments. Mrs. A. is a research consultant for Associated Industries, Inc. (Query: what happens when Associated Industries disagrees with reapportionment?)

Gus Zimmerman Jr. writes: "After 30 years with U.S. Rubber in North Jersey moved south to Princeton to work for H. K. Porter, Trenton, as works manager. I find a Dartmouth man can be quite happy in Tiger territory. Son 15 an Eagle Scout."

Bill Peck reports from Sturbridge, Mass.: "Our son Bill Jr. and his wife Ann have given us two lovely granddaughters. Our daughter, Melinda, who resides in Toronto plans a June wedding. Her fiance is a dental student at U. of Toronto."

Dr. George A. Hahn sent a good card, updating the record: "Continuing as Professor Ob - Gyn at Jefferson Medical College and visiting lecturer Ob - Gyn at U. of Pennsylvania. Daughter - Cynthiania — Connecticut College graduate - working at Greenwich, Conn., Y.W.C.A. Daughter Doretta formerly at U. of Pennsylvania - married, working at Sun Oil Company in Philadelphia. Twin daughters - Anne, Elizabeth - seniors at Columbia. Son - Alan - freshman at Dickinson College in Carlisle - doing well in studies and sports. Wife - Cynthia now working as school nurse for Lower Merion Township." George - I suggest that habit crept in. The post card looked like a prescription blank.

Jack McRae presents a series of pictures only slightly short of a half-hour movie: "This has been a year of travel for the McRaes. Last Easter, Marti and I took the 5-day cruise to .Nassau aboard the Queen Elizabeth. Joining us were my nephew Bob Roberts '52, wife Martha and three boys. August found us on the west coast on a business trip. We managed a 4-day weekend to Honolulu for pleasure. Marti saw many old friends from her one semester at U. of H. December 19 found us boarding the Santa Marcados for a 26-day cruise to South America. Made stops in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru - in fact spent New Year's Day in Lima. Spent Christmas day going through the Panama Canal. Had fun!"

Bob Hosmer says that he is "approaching 25th wedding anniversary, children - girl 13, boy 11. Couldn't be told from any other burgher in Syracuse - except that my business is smaller and I do own it." (Bob - my record says you are president of the Deßoer Manufacturing Company, Inc. Is this your business? and what are you manufacturing?) He continues "routine community activities and boards, with the growing conviction (and documentation) that there is more money, effort, and time wasted on the undefinable in the social, health, and welfare field (voluntary) than any other type of local effort known to man."

James C. Dillon 2nd says that he supports his hobbies of golf, squash, and sailing by being president of the Wilmington Sash and Door Company, his family business. His activities as director of the Delaware Trust Company and the Central Perpetual Savings and Loan Association presumably take care of daughters Faith (a senior at Mount Holyoke) and Leslie. Jim also says that he is a "passed president" of the Middle Atlantic Lumberman's Association, which presents an image that I never encountered before.

Felix L. Laub updates his record for us: "Married in 1961 for second time; my first wife died in 1957. Have three children - son, Eric is ensign in U. S. Navy in training to be a pilot. Member Newark, Del., Rotary Club, and board of directors Delaware Retail Liquor Dealers Association, was president Men's Club Temple Beth Shalom. Wilmington and treasurer Temple Beth El, Newark.

At this writing (on May 3), Anne and I plan to be in Hanover on May 7-8 for the annual class officers' meeting. This will be my first attendance at this affair and I hope to learn how to do a better job as secretary. Anne appreciates Hanover nearly as much as I do since she worked in Baker Library for two years, starting in the fall of 1932. We have been to all '32 reunions. We have two canes standing in the corner of the living room, mine that you saw long ago and that of Jim '63. His is in the modern style - taller and uncarved. Why indulge in all this? We all appreciate what we learned on the Hanover Plain.

Send your check to the Alumni Fund, if you haven't already done so.
