The class executive committee recently met at Mel Alperin's home in Sunapee. Attending were Herb Swarzman, Ralph Manuel, Walt Vail, Walt Yusen, Dave Bradley, Don McCree, Larry Weltin, John Parker, Joel Portugal, Rink DeWitt, Peter Kenny, Fred Pitzner, and Peter Williamson. Several other committee members, including myself, were unfortunately unable to attend.
Don McCree gave his final report on our glorious 15th Reunion. 193 adults and 153 children attended, which turnout was slightly better than the other two 15th Reunion Classes, although a bit less than expected.
Herb Swarzman reviewed the records which the Class set in last year's Alumni Fund. The total amount given by 1958 was over $120,000. This was substantially higher than any 15-year Class ever achieved. Our Class was the first to go over S100,000 in an Alumni Fund Campaign and considering the total giving for our Class (which includes items above and beyond the Alumni Fund), we are ahead of what has been achieved by other classes at Dartmouth. Our percentage of participation also increased. Other items of discussion and decision will be reported in the class newsletter which Larry Weltin will attempt to publish once per quarter until we get closer to our 20th Reunion, at which time the frequency will increase to at least six per year.
Ron Snow has the responsibility for verifying the outcome of the closely-contested New Hampshire U.S. Senate race between Republican Louis Wyman and Democrat John Durkin. Ron is chairman of the State Ballot Law Commission, a three member body which is often the final source of appeal for ballot recounts and nomination legality decisions in New Hampshire. A number of ballots were contested by Durkin. Ron has been quoted as saying "with the number of ballots in so close a realm, a mistake in tabulation could show up."
I received a newsy letter from Mike Dikman. Mike is married with two children, David (13) and Donna (9) and lives in Manhasset Hills, N.Y. Mike practices law in Jamaica, N.Y., where he specializes in matrimonial law and is chairman of the Queens Bar Association Family Law Committee. Mike has had several articles published and has spoken at numerous seminars on family and matrimonial law subjects. He is president of the Brandeis Association and past president of the Jamaica Lions Club, Jamaica Lawyers Club and Federation's Queens Lawyers Division. Mike was quite a handball player in college and the years have neither diminished his talent nor interest in the sport. He has been actively competing in National one wall handball tournaments twice a year since 1962 and has consistently been a quarter-finalist or semi-finalist. In 1972 Mike made the singles final and in July, 1974 Mike and his partner won the AAU National Doubles Crown. And who said that '58s were over the hill.
Please keep the letters coming.
