If there's anything good to say about that miserable rain which contributed to the Big Green's downfall at the hands of the Holy Cross Crusaders, it's the fact that your scribe devoted the afternoon to this epistle rather than slogging up to Worcester. However, we did take in the Massachusetts game which started the season off; for those of you who haven't driven to Hanover recently, the road network continues to improve, albeit slowly, and with additional sections of Interstate 91 about to open the trip will become considerably faster and more enjoyable, though the West Springfield-Holyoke area bottleneck won't be re- lieved for some time.

While down Houston way last May I had a lengthy phone chat with Dave McLean, who represents Owens-Illinois Glass in its laboratory glass lines. The McLean family - there are four boys now - are in their eighth year in this thriving Texas area, and live at 10821 Long Shadow Lane, Houston.

Thumbing through a recent issue of "Pictorial California," I spotted a photo of the George F. Jewett Jr. family, adorned with leis while on a visit to Hawaii. Fritz is executive vice president of Potlatch Forests, headquartered in San Francisco.

A note from Bill Balderston announces his recent affiliation with the Lincoln Rochester Trust Company as vice president and director of marketing. Bill, Ruth and their three boys and one girl moved to 44 Lincoln Ave., Pittsford, N. Y., about July 1. Bill will be on the lookout for some of you at the Cornell game.

Art Waterson has been appointed international underwriting manager-second vice president to head the new unit formed by The Employers' Group of Insurance Companies. Art will coordinate and expand insurance participation overseas and work in conjunction with The Northern & Employers' in London. Before joining the company in 1964 he worked for 14 years with the Massachusetts Rating Bureau as secretary. He was most recently assistant superintendent in the home office underwriting analysis department.

Bernard A. Batycki has taken the position of City Manager of New London, Conn., after a 16-year stint in Hartford City Hall, most of which were in the finance department. 26 Nob Hill Road, New London, Conn. 06320 is the new Batycki residence.

Dave Luce reports in from 2914 N. Downer Ave., Milwaukee, Wis. 53211 on a host of items. Son Randy has a new brother, Alexander Stanford, who was born March 20, 1966. Dave is associate professor of philosophy at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, an appointment which was effected in June. He has had several grants for research, both from the University and the American Philosophical Society; his articles have appeared in a number of philosophical journals. Activities outside the classroom have included participation in local Democratic party activities and in the American Civil Liberties Union, where he serves on the executive board of the Milwaukee chapter.

I particularly appreciate letters like Dave's, sent in either in response to inquiries which we send out or as free-will offerings, as does Joe Medlicott, Editor of the "50-50," because we can't do justice to these columns without hearing from you fellows. How about penning one to us right now? For instance, there's a flock of address changes coming up, and we'd like to elaborate on them; thus, if you've recently made a move or plan to do so in the near future, let us have the background information to make the item more meaningful.
