Gift of Charles Curts '23 Converts Hopkins Residence To Friends Meeting House
NOVEMBER 1966

The home of the late President Emeritus Ernest M. Hopkins, located near the campus on Rope Ferry Road, is now a Friends Meeting House. It was the scene recently of dedication ceremonies to the memory of Lillie P. Burling, a longtime resident of Ridgewood, New Jersey.

Charles W. Curts '23, whose initial gift made possible the purchase of the building, presented a bronze plaque which reads: "This Friends Meeting House is a gift of Charles W. Curts, Dartmouth 1923, in memory of his beloved friend Lillie Pereira Burling (1896-1965), a member of the Ridgewood Friends Meeting and a woman of truly great Christian stature."

Curts said, "The two people who have had the most influence on my life were the late President Hopkins of Dartmouth and Lillie Burling. It seems almost a miracle that this memorial to Lillie Burling will occupy the home of President Hopkins."
