Total Class Giving to June 30, 1966

DURING the fiscal year which ended June 30, 1966, Dartmouth alumni, parents, and friends contributed to the College a total of $5,066,326 which was attributable to classes. This total served to raise the aggregate lifetime giving of the Classes of 1894 through 1969 to a grand total of $57,471,683. Detailed class records are shown in the accompanying table.

Many outstanding class performances figured in this overall achievement, and first to be saluted should be the four classes — 1906, 1920, 1922 and 1944 - which have joined the select, but growing, group of classes which have contributed $1,000,000 or more during their alumni lifetime. This brings to twenty the number of classes in this category.

Another significant milestone - a halfmillion dollars in the Alumni Fund category gory alone - was passed this year by four classes, 1915, 1921, 1924 and 1929, to double the number of classes in that group which is still led by 1925, 1926, 1927 and 1923 in that order.

The Class of 1915 insured its continued lead in total giving by contributing $525,925 during the year, the highest annual total. Following, all with annual contributions of $150,000 or more, were 1906, 1914, 1920, 1922 and 1924. Leading in the Alumni Fund category was 1942 which gave a record $77,569 during the 1966 campaign.

The giving represented by these totals flowed into literally every area of the College program and plant, with the largest single amount — $1,937,790 - coming in through the Alumni Fund. Realizations from bequests and trusts in the hands of others totaled $1,049,398. The remainder consisted of gifts for current use, endowment and plant which were made either outright or through the medium of life income trusts.

One highlight of the year was the achievement of 1941 in establishing a new record in total class giving at the 25th reunion. Some $254,000 in pledges and gifts were made by members of 1941 during the 2% years leading up to their 25th reunion, to bring their grand total to $686,541.

The Alumni Council Committee on Class Giving, under whose auspices the Class Giving Program is operated, is happy to make these figures available annually. It is their hope that classes will view these total giving achievements as one important aspect of their service to the College. The committee will gladly cooperate with and assist any class which wishes to mount a special effort.
