A SPECIAL 16-PAGE INSERT in this issue, beginning on Page 25, presents a broad, national picture of postwar change in American higher education. It is a cooperative effort by a group of 22 college editors, among whom Dartmouth has been represented since this sort of national reporting began nearly ten years ago under the name of Operation Moonshooter. The operation has since become Editorial Projects for Education, Inc., and to the original project of an annual insert has been added syndicated articles, a newsletter for college trustees, and other publications aimed at giving alumni and alumnae the educational story in national terms.
Since this year's EPE report deals with all sorts of institutions comprising American higher education, not all parts of it are strictly pertinent to what has been happening at Dartmouth. To accompany the so-called "big picture" we present in this issue two articles of our own dealing with postwar change at Dartmouth, specifically with change in the educational program. This area more than any other, we believe, is the heart of the matter.
