Will those who have not returned the reunion question cards please do so promptly. Then we will know how many to expect. As of this writing (March 28) we have sixteen No's and seven Probably or Yes as follows: McGovern, Gilmore, Hildreth, Cox, French, Leila Rugg, and Cudworth. For any others who think they cannot get around the College has assigned to our class a car with driver and a student helper.
Under date of April 5 Gillie Gilmore writes that he had just returned from, three weeks in the Norwalk, Conn., hospital following a mild heart attack and that the injured muscle is healing very well. Externally he is in tip top condition but inside he is beginning to crack with the years. Anyhow he is being babied to death by everyone in the Inn. He says that Jane and Harry Jr. keep in almost daily contact with him. How ever in the hospital you are just an atom, treated on a straight line manufacturing basis. But the food was not too poor. The hospital here is full and the help problem is terrific.
It was so kind and thoughtful of Clara Shinn of Morristown, N. J., daughter of George Arthur Sampson, to write in the following: "I am sorry to inform you that your classmate passed away on March 3, 1966. He had broken his hip a month ago and was recovering from that in the hospital. He just slipped away in his sleep without warning.
"I noticed your letter of October 2 to him and thought I would let you know that he had retired from Weston and Sampson in 1964 and had been home since then. Mother wants to continue here at home, although we both would like to have her with us. Sorry to have to send this kind of news to you." The sincere sympathy of the Class is extended to her mother, to Clara, and the other members of the family. More details will be in the In Memoriam in this or a subsequent issue.
A scathing letter from Harland Cate takes me to task for the three lines in the March issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE reading as follows: "A season's greeting card was received from Harland Gate's widow, Bernice." I "goofed" so I now publicly apologize to Harland and Bernice Curtis, widow of Harlan F. Curtis, who died in 1961.
Harlan said he would have to be living in the hereafter so he consulted his M.D. who assured him he was still alive and in remarkably good condition. Cate wanted to know who this Bernice is. Now he does and her address is Golden Court, Apt. No. 9, Hadley, Mass. 01035. Now he can tell her what he told me.
A note from Charlie Chase. They are still at the New York City address. He says as of now Helen and he will not be able to attend the 65th reunion due to his health. They plan to return to Rensselaerville, N. Y., in about a month. Hope you improve and are both able to make it, Charlie.
