JUNE 1966 ARTHUR W. HOOVER, JEROME H. BENTLEY 3RD

For those of you who have forgotten, this June makes a quick four years since that warm commencement day. And for those of you who don't care to remember, we just survived another "slush" season in good shape. We now bask in the pleasant days of early New Hampshire spring. How's things with you?

Bob Eder and his Mrs. Nancy, sent along a cheerful note from Chicago. On March 21 they welcomed a young lad into their family, Daniel Paul, weighing in at 8 lbs., 4½ oz. Bob is completing his third year at Chicago Medical School, currently occupied with surgery at Michael Reese Hospital. Steve and Chris Martindale joined Bob and Nancy in adding to the Dartmouth family with the arrival of a son, Timothy Ingraham, on April 20. Young Tim was a shade under 7 lbs. when the stork departed. Now Chris has someone around with hair.

One otherwise quiet evening at home was nicely interrupted by a call from John Wilkinson. Wilkie gave me a lot of news, but between Sue and me, the notes disappeared. But I seem to recall that John is working in Minneapolis employed by someone who allows him to use the phone no doubt. Judy is in the family way and the doctor has promised Wilkie he'll be the papa of twins. The power of positive thinking, John? John is in close touch with many Dartmouth names in the area, and heads up the summer employment committee for the Twin City Dartmouth students. Sorry about those notes, Wilkie.

Gordi Williamson informs me that I'm the only class secretary minus a zip code number. Gordon is passing the time as a law student at Harvard, but found the time to send on some helpful gossip. Clever Don Samuelson and his clever wife, Nancy, are slumming it in a lakeside Chicago apartment while Don polishes up the University of Chicago Law Review as an editor.

Gordi mentioned an exciting episode at Sam's wedding where Lightning Steve Lasch invaded the girls' room, quite by accident. Nothing serious though as Steve has got it pretty well figured out by now. Ted Lind finishes up at the Harvard Business School this June, and then will begin working for a living with Texas Instruments of Attleboro, Mass. As mentioned in this column two months ago, Lou Setti is indeed in Laos. While teaching English is Lou's official duty, he sees a great deal of the Pathet Lao Guerrillas, who seem to be quite active in Lou's village. Gordi also relates that many '62's are in evidence in and about the Harvard campus.

From out in California comes word of Steve Mason, who was recently selected editor in chief of the UCLA Law Review for the 1966-67 school year. This honor is the latest, and just one in a series of academic awards achieved by Steve. While at Dartmouth, Steve was a Dartmouth fellow, and following graduation, he participated in the A.I.D. sponsored Teachers for East Africa program as an English and Mathematics instructor in Tanganyika.

The Georgia Medical College sent on a news flash for the alumni records. Bill Whaley is stampeding his way through the Medical College of Georgia and following his graduation this month, Bill will intern in Atlanta. Not just satisfied with an M.D., Bill presented a paper entitled, "Alterations of Maternal Plasma Free Fatty Acids and Glucose During Labor and Delivery" (that's what it says here) in Chicago at the annual meeting of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists on May 3. Bill also collaborated with Dr. G. H. Nelson and Dr. F. P. Zuspan in writing "Placental Transfers of Epinephrine" which was published in the current issue of "Gynecological Investigation." (Although I haven't read it, I understand it's a fine story.)

That's it for this month. As my career as an acting secretary draws to a close, I want to say that it's been a "real fine" experience "there" being a blue team secretary. Send in the news.
