In recognition of his outstanding performance as Head Agent of the Class of 1958, Herbert G. Swarzman '58 (r) received the 1965 John R. Mason Trophy at the Alumni Fund Class Agents Dinner in New York on March 30. In making the presentation Fund Chairman Rupert C. Thompson Jr. '28 (1) cited him as follows:
One of the major tasks facing younger Head Agents is that of beginning to shift emphasis gradually to realistic giving after the important initial stages of building broad-based participation. During the two years of your tenure as Head Class Agent for the Class of 1958 you have performed this difficult feat in a truly admirable fashion. While continuing to increase participation by almost 20 percent, you have also almost doubled your class's dollar total to a 1965 total of $11,300, a new record for a class of your vintage. An effective regional organization, a special gifts chairman and a halfcentury club, all created by you, have worked well to help achieve these impressive results. A landslide victory in the Group VIII Green Derby Group was yours in 1965, won on leadership in both participation and dollars. For the effectiveness and enthusiasm of your leadership and for the fine achievements by a large and effective team of Class Agents and by the truly superb response by your Class of 1958 fellowship, the Dartmouth Alumni Fund is pleased and privileged this evening to salute you and the Class of 1958 by naming you as the Out standing Head Class Agent of a class from one to ten years out of College with the award of this 1965 John R. Mason Trophy.
