Posthumous Tribute Paid To Bob Williamson '34
MAY 1966

The 1965 James B. Reynolds Trophy, given annually to the outstanding Alumni Fund Head Agent of a class 25 to 40 years out of college, was awarded posthumously to Robert M. Williamson '34 at the New York Fund Dinner on March 30. The award to Williamson, who died last August 26, was accepted by his brother, Norris G. Williamson '26. Fund Chairman Rupert C. Thompson Jr. '28 read the following citation:

There is a saying that in our Dartmouth fellowship "there is no parting," and there are more than 300 Dartmouth Fund workers here tonight who can testify to that as we pay homage to one Dartmouth man who cannot be with us - Robert M. Williamson, Head Class Agent of the Class of 1934. Bob served as Head Agent for three years, and during that time his leadership produced a fifty percent increase in dollars by his class and an encouraging ten percent gain in donors. Ably assisted by his wife, Janet, whose interests and devotion to the Class of 1934 and Dartmouth equalled his own, Bob created a fine team of volunteer Agents and thoughtfully directed them in all stages of each campaign. Last year the Class of 1934 showed the greatest dollar improvement of any class in its decade. Bob Williamson was a patient and tireless Head Agent, a man who sensed to the fullest the rich heritage and traditions of the Dartmouth fellowship, and whose Alumni Fund effort was based entirely on his sensitive awareness of and appreciation for these factors. Bob Williamson's loss is Dartmouth's and the Class of 1934's for seldom has one man been so devoted to both. We pause tonight to honor his memory and pledge to carry on the Alumni Fund in the thoughtful spirit he so effectively exemplified. The College and the Alumni Fund Committee are highly privileged to pay tribute to Bob, to Mrs. Williamson and to the entire Class of 1934 fellowship by presenting posthumously to Robert M. Williamson the 1965 James B. Reynolds Trophy awarded annually to the outstanding Head Agent of a class from 25 to 40 years out of College.
