Scott Pardee made history. He was appointed chairman of the U.S. unit of Yamaichi Securities, one of Japan's biggest brokers, the first American ever appointed to the top management position of the U.S. unit of a Japanese financial institution. Moreover, it made Scott only the second American, following one appointed to head a unit of Sony in the sixties, ever appointed chairman of the U.S. subsidiary of any Japanese company. A longtone officer ana senior vice president of the New York Federal Reserve, where he was in charge of foreign exchange operations, Scott joined Discount Corp. of N.Y. in 1961 then became vice chairman of Yamaichi 1986. Scott was described by the Wall street Journal as "an ultra-serious gracious person" with the "demeanor of a teacher." Asked how he liked working for the Japanese, Scott replied, "We are working with the Japanese, rather than for them." To Scott Pardee, all good wishes and congratulations on this capstone of a successful career.
