Having recently survived the Dartmouth-Harvard football game without a cardiac arrest I cancelled my annual physical which is usually taken in the fall of the year. In the last column I suggested that Bud Munson ought to find it an easy trip from his new home to the Yale football game - sorry about that Bud!
Mort Smith has just been appointed Assistant Actuary at Home Life Insurance Company. Mort and Nan and three children, who live at 909 Carnegie Avenue, Plain-field, N. J., spent three delightful days with Phil and Lou Gahm on the Maine Coast this summer. Mort reports that Phil enjoys the role of country squire when he is not busy distributing automotive parts throughout New England. In addition they also spent a very pleasant week on Cape Cod and saw Russ and Helen Carlson. Mort's son, Randy, age 16, and Russ apparently had a couple of golf games during the week but we have no report on the scores!
Tom Baldwin advises that he is regional manager of the group insurance division of Mutual of Omaha, working in New York City. Tom and Mary Jane have two sons, ages 13 and 17 and must be thinking about college for their older son. They are living at Apt. 1-E, 20 Brookside Drive, Greenwich, Conn. Tom spends his spare time boating in Long Island Sound and is serving as commander of the Greenwich Power Squadron.
A dual appointment as assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and director of the pediatric out-patient clinics at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, N. Y., has been received by Dr. Bob Hoekelman. Bob and Ann and four daughters have been living in Canandaigua, N. Y., where Bob has been very active in civic affairs. He has served as president of the Chamber of Commerce and we know that the community hopes his new job will not necessitate a move.
Hugh and Jane Ettinger have recently moved from Minneapolis to 16 The Crescent, Short Hills, N. J. Hugh, a security analyst, has become associated with A. G. Becker & Co. working with their financial services.
Ray Richard, who is with Cummins Engine Co., Ltd., has recently been elected a vice president for international manufacturing. Cummins is a maker of high speed diesel and gas engines. Ray, Gloria and two sons are living in London, England.
Pete Smith has been appointed program manager of WOR-TV (Channel 9) in N.Y.C. For three years Pete has been involved in freelance production and has directed a number of specials for CBS-TV, M.E.T., RKO General Phonevision in Hartford, Conn., as well as WOR-TV. Pete has been in broadcasting since 1949 and has held executive posts with NBC Telesales and Bryan Houston, Inc. He and Lynn live at 21 Beech Lane, Tarrytown, N. Y., with five children, three boys and two girls.
Dick Dahl has a company called Essential Planning Associates" in which he is managing director. Located in Princeton, N. J., they do life insurance planning in sophisticated areas such as estate planning and business insurance situations and also act as consultants in the design and administration of employee benefit plans. Dick and Dot make their home at Alexander Road, Princeton Jet., N. J. They have two sons and are expecting another child who will have arrived by the time this goes to print. Dick advises that his principal hobby has been boating. He's had two boats, appropriately named "Wah Hoo Wah" I and II! He also reports seeing Walt and Grace Henry and their four children for dinner recently.
Bobo Russell, doing an excellent job as newsletter editor, is president of the Saugerties National Bank. Bobo, who was missed by all at reunion, was attending the New York State Banker's Convention. Bobo and Barbara live at 26 Mynderse Street, Saugerties, N. Y., and have four children. The Russells also get to Maine in the summer and it would almost seem we could have a '48 gathering of some sort here.
Dave and Pat Anthony and three children have moved to 3728 East Eric Ave., Tulsa, Okla. Dave has been with Cities Service Oil Company since 1963 in their exploration and production group and was recently promoted to manager.
Jerry King has recently become an associate professor of government at University of Massachusetts.
Word has been received of the death of Haynes Miller in Paris, France, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family.
