ON APRIL 4 WE GATHERED for our annual dinner at the Wyomissing Club in Reading. A record crowd of twenty-two turned out to listen to Sid Hayward '26, Secretary of the College and Editor of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE. Sid spoke to us about the change and growth of the College which is always constant and always inevitable. However, he advised that we must make sure the changes are real progress.
One of the reasons why Dartmouth progresses is due to the national representation of the undergraduate body and hence the Alumni. This is not an accident, but is purposely brought about through the selective process of admissions.
Sid also spoke at some length on the changes in teaching, such as audiovisual education, and the changes in the physical aspect of the College as the new building program keeps under way. In addition he told us about the fraternity situation, Hanover Holiday, and the proposed building for dramatic and musical work. The latter subject was discussed freely and far into the night.
Os Skinner '28 was unable to attend for the reason "I'll be in Florida getting Mary Van Dyne of Troy, Pa. to say 'yes.' " Andy Marshall '22 unfortunately was called out of town the last minute, as was King Badger '29 and Ed Heath '38 The following men wallowed in fun and listened with mouths open: Jim Rick '31, Dr. Jim Shoenfelt '35, Art Zulick '18, Bob Simonds '25, johnny Dessau '18, Tom McGrath '38, Al Doolittle '36, Lee Bausher '21, Milt Shultz '30, Johnny Mullen '35, Chick Chickering '33, Frank Tragle '30, Courtland Young '41, and his dad, Mr. John Young Sr., Ken Simonds '25, Bill Wyne '38, Randy Klinefelter '34, "Dutch" Klopp '09, Carl Erdman '37, and Colby Howe '38.
