As these notes are written, President AllenE. Newton is still confined to the hospital with complications resulting from a gall bladder operation on October 19. Al had spent the month previous in the hospital being built up and the operation was termed successful.
Ten members of 1909 gathered at the Hotel Vendome on Friday evening October 22 for its 60th annual dinner before the Harvard game. Al Newton had made reservations under the heading "Sunday School Class '09." Present were Chester Brett, Wilbur Bull, Ed Chappelear, Harold Clark, Bertrand French, Oliver Greenwood, Curtis Hilliard, Jim Hitchcock, Stanley Leighton, and Gordon Weinz. A fine steak dinner was enjoyed and pleasant memories recalled of past Harvard games attended by one or more members from 1903 to the present. Ollie Greenwood recalled how, at the urging of '08, he and Joe Graff had rung the Hanover fire alarm to celebrate the 1905 victory over Princeton and Joe had been fined fifty dollars by Judge "Tute" Worthen.
Wilbur and Anna Bull were the guests of Harold and Harriet Clark at their Sagamore Beach home the week of the Harvard game. It was a busy time for Harold; a 78th birthday on the 16th; a Boston meeting of the Diocesan Advance Fund of the Episcopal Church; a golf match with his college roommate Wilbur; a swim in Cape Cod Bay; a dinner party for the Bulls and Frenches, and the Class dinner in Boston.
