The Trustees have approved increases in dormitory room rents (which now average about $4OO a year) of about $25 per student and board rate increases of about $6O per student, starting next fall.
The board rates at Thayer Hall will become $600 per year for upperclassmen and $6lO for freshmen. The rates for five-day contracts will become $540 per year. Five-day contracts at Tuck School's Stell Hall become $545 and six-day contracts $585.
College Business Manager Richard W. Olmsted '32, talking to The Dartmouth, said the rising cost of living was one of a variety of factors involved in the rise. "The union contract had some effect," he noted, "but the costs were not greatly more than had been expected."
The room rent increase is the first since 1963; the last board increase was in 1964. There were, however, adjustments in both when the College took over the additional expense of furnishing rooms and began providing the serving of seconds at Thayer.
