For several years we have occasionally reported the retirement of a classmate, usually very briefly because our "retirees" were quite reticent about the matter. Except for fellows retiring from the armed services, like Sherm Baketel, they seemed to want to slip out of the arena quietly - as if there was some sort of stigma attached to taking things easy before you reached the age of sixty.

Attitudes are changing rapidly, however, and we find in our mailbag news of five classmates who are "retiring, a. word that does not properly describe their action. Natalie Carr has a better word "revocating" - maybe you can suggest another.

Anyway, Lane Dwinell, has announce the sale of his company, Carter & Churchill Co., Inc., nationally known skiwear manufacturer, to two of his associates both Tuck School graduates Lane will continue as a director of the Lebanon, N. H., concern, "retired from active business in the prime of manhood to follow Pleasurable pursuits, and travel. Lane aads, "Maybe I'll try to emulate him in some resects even though I do not qualify in others."

Abe Ziskind's address change has a notation "retired " - the new address is Beekman Towers 9499 Collins Ave., Surfside, Fla. Abe was' formerly head of the Crescent Corp., Fall River, Mass., dealers in mill machinery.

Chris Livingston, who came to Dartmouth from Sherman, Texas, has retired to 1210 Virginia Drive. Kerrville, Texas. Chris started with California-Texas Oil Co., Ltd., right after college, worked in China. Japan, India-China and India, and became general manager of its South Asia Division. During the war he was in a Japanese internment camp.

Tohn Lawrence writes, "I've joined the ranks of the unemployed. After commuting from Marion to Boston (60 miles) by car for the past eight years I've decided to call it quits, and retired the end of January George Emery retired the same day. The big Snfe whether the Bell System can stand the blow of losing two such sterimg characters simultaneously. I m afraid I know the answer." John says his immediate plans are to work on the house and yard, do a little gardening, a little fishing,, play alittle golf and probably get a little bit involved in town politics.

George and Marion Davis planned to go to Boston for the annual Dartmouth alumni dinner February 2, but after sitting in the Albany airport all afternoon, finally saw their flight cancelled. George was scheduled to present Alumni Awards to Dan Ruggles '21 and Squeek Redding '29. George and Marion spent the last two weeks in February vacationing in Barbados.

We are all saddened by the death of Stu Goodwillie on February 7 at his home in New Canaan, Conn., after an uphill fight against cancer. Hank Walker and John andPeg Zellers aţended the funeral.

Bud and Gloria Osborn's daughter, Barrie, and Warner B. Bishop '41 of Cleveland were married in Bronxville, N. Y., on February 4. Barrie graduated from Bnarclift College in 1960.
