With our 40th Reunion only a year away, you should write down the dates - Monday, June 17 to Wednesday, June 19. At that time we will be returning to Hanover with the Classes of 1932, 1933 and 1934.
The Class Executive Committee has appointed Cal Billings of Hartford, Conn., to the position of Reunion Chairman. There's been hardly a year in the past 39 that Cal wasn't doing a job for the Class or College. First he served as an assistant class agent, then as class dinner chairman in New York, followed by offices in the Hartford Alumni Association, interviewing work, Class Agent for three years, etc. He and Genie have two sons: Sam, a freshman at Dartmouth, and Bill, in the Navy.
Cal has already been to Hanover to confer with the College on plans and reports we will have our choice of dorms. Will it be Mass. Row? Rooms may be occupied from Sunday afternoon to Thursday morning.
Cal will welcome suggestions and also "letters of intent" from those planning to attend. His address is F. C. Billings, 58 Rumford St., West Hartford, Conn. 06107.
First definite promise to attend came from "Big John" Lyman of Los Angeles when he visited Hartford several months ago. It's time to start making your plans too.
Add Jack Kenerson's name to last month's lengthy list of gentlemen of leisure, no longer committed to the daily commuting grind. Jack retired from active duty with Ginn & Co. after 36 years of service, but is continuing as a director and secretary of the board for another year at least. He won't be sitting on his duff because he has his work cut out for him as a member of the Alumni Council, President of the Wellesley Country Club and of the Newton-Wellesley Hospital. And when he finishes those jobs there will be others!
Gene Andres now has more time to spend in his swimming pool — he retired as of the first of the year from Continental Can Co. For the past twenty years he has been personnel manager of that company's plant in San Jose, Calif., and for four years before that occupied a similar position for the company in Seattle.
Pete Bennett has been elected president of the Rotary Club of Montclair, N. J. Pete has been with New Jersey Bell Telephone since College and is manager of the Montclair office. A tip of the hat to JohnPhillips for the clipping.
Milt and Peggy Hoefle's son Frank '57 was married at Ipswich, Mass., in March but guest Larry Lougee '29 forgot to include the bride's name. Frank was just back from Vietnam where he had some wonderful experiences as an eye surgeon. Among the guests at the wedding were Myles andMargaret Lane and Tux and Pete Small '29 of New York City.
George and Paula Bell returned to their home in Washington, D. C., after Christmas from three delightful months in Hong Kong.
Red Jenkins says he enjoyed the Alumni College in Hanover so much last year that he has signed up again.
Mary and I had a wonderful three-week vacation in Peru and Colombia in February. One of the high spots was a reunion with Hal Pierce and the hospitality which he and his wife Maria, and their son Leslie, extended to us. After Pisco sours at their beautiful home in Lima, Peru, they took us to dinner at a fabulous restaurant. Hal and Maria have two other sons, Alan and Frank, but they were working during their summer vacations. Frank is a senior in the Engineering School of the National University in Lima. Despite his 25 years in South America, Hal speaks like the New Hampshire man he is. He is with Marcona Mining Co. The other high spot of our trip was our visit to Cuzco and Machu Picchu. An unscheduled thrill was the severe earthquake which greeted us in Bogota - and killed 62 people in and near Bogota.
It is with sadness that we report the death of two classmates, Virg McNeil and Spin Paeff.
