Ten different crews were spending two weeks working out in preparation for an April 15 debut. Five heavy crews, consisting of 2½ varsity and 2½ freshman crews, were working out at Kent School, while five 150-pound crews were getting their practice in at M.I.T. in Cambridge.

Pete Gardner, coach of the heavies, was optimistic that this season, the first under official auspices of the DCAC, would prove successful.

"We have more experience this year than we've ever had," he said. "But even experienced guys have to have time to practice together, and the weather is the big determiner of how much time we can have."

Frank Smith '67 from Waverly, Pa., is varsity heavy captain, and Karl Friberg '67, Fairfax, Va., is 150-pound captain.

The schedule calls for races nearly every weekend starting April 15. On that day the heavies will be in Providence to compete with Brown and Boston University for the Atalanta Cup, while the 150 pound crew will be in New Haven to row against Yale and M.I.T. for the Durand Cup, which Dartmouth now holds jointly with Yale.

At March practice in Leverone Field House, pitcher Francis Ota '67 serves themup and Captain Bruce Smith '67, outfielder, takes a healthy swing at the plate.
