Phil Hildreth is the new head of the biology department of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Phil, who moves to his new campus position from the Lawrence Radiation Laboratory of the University of California at Berkeley, is well known in scientific circles for his work in the field of genetics.

Another North Carolinian professor checks in with Bob Cate writing from Recife, Brazil. "I am now associate professor of North Carolina State University as well as regional director of the International Soil Testing Project. Brazil now has a nationwide net of modern soil testing laboratories to tell the farmers how to fertilize and lime their lands. While I am not totally responsible for this, I at least catalyzed it, and it is generally considered a remarkably successful example of technical assistance. Meanwhile, Kitty has completed her book on The Carnaval Clubs of Recife and it will probably be published in 1967 by the Ministry of Education. The climate here is ideal: 85° maximum, 12° minimum, every day of the year. Come see us!"

Stan Howard is a newly elected assistant vice-president of the Minute Man Companies (insurance). Stan, manager of the fire loss department, is also a director of the Concord (Mass.) Cooperative Bank.

Dave Schreiber writes from Essex, Conn., where he has been practicing dentistry since 1953. "Am active in the Dartmouth Club of Southeastern Connecticut and am on the local interviewing committee. I can be found in New Haven whenever any Dartmouth team comes down to tangle with Yale."

'45 now helps run, not only the College, but also the town of Hanover as Don Cutter was recently elected to the post of selectman.

Neale Lawson was presented the 1966 citizen of the year award by the Kinston, N. C., Chamber of Commerce. Neale was cited for his endeavors as the head of the county blood bank as well as his activities in church, civic, and fraternal organizations.

Max Goldfine, in the real estate field for several years, is contemplating "going back into my first love - the textile business. Am anxious to contact any of the old Dartmouths in that field who might steer me to some of the textile magnates."

From Pittsburgh, and Mars Hill, Pa., AlMcAliley brings the latest on the field of hospital administration - "Still doing the same - administrator of North Hills Passavant Hospital, Pittsburgh. Wrestling with medicare, higher nurses' salaries, etc., etc., but thoroughly enjoy the work! Regards to any and all '455."

Dick Gilman's good wife and helpmate, Lucille, was recently featured in the Los Angeles press as an epitome of all that a college first lady should be. Having partaken of the Oilman hospitality at the gracious presidential mansion of Occidental College, we can heartily second the accolades that Lucille received.

From Springfield, Mass., come two reports. ... Ken Nicholson points with pride (and well he should!!) to Gene Ryzewicz '68 as "one of my boys" as Ken has been active in and now heads the national enrollment committee for that area. Ken is also the immediate past president of the Springfield Dartmouth Club. Bob Epstein is the assistant treasurer of Casual Corner, Inc. (ladies' apparel stores in New England, New York, Ohio, and Wisconsin) and is the 1967 chairman of the Springfield retail bureau.

A tragedy to report - Phil DeBerard disappeared January 14, 1967, along with his wife and another couple, on a single engine plane flight from Miami to Key Largo. Search failed to reveal any presence of his plane.

Here and there.... Bill Hardenstine is vice-president of sales. World Airways, Oakland (Calif.) International Airport.... Grover Penberthy writes that he is still assigned to the political section, U.S. Embassy, Belgrade, where Gene Pinney also labored until his recent switch to Bern, Switzerland. ... John Washburn is now in the international arrangements division of the Communications Satellite Corp., Washington, D. C.... Bill McNeely is now in Racine, Wis., as marketing manager, Jacobson Manufacturing Corp.

Paul Caravatt is now board chairman of the Marschalk Co. Paul had been president of Carl Ally, Inc., and previous to that had been executive vice president of La Roche, McCaffrey and McCall and a senior vice president at Foote, Cone and Belding. With Suzanne, eleven, and Cynthia, fifteen, he and Laura will be at 274 Westport Road in Wilton, Conn.

Two trade magazines recently saw fit to publicize '45s - Frank Hutchins, president of Hutchins Advertising Co., Inc., Rochester, N. Y., was featured in an article concerning a bank's advertising campaign, and Eliot Mover was presented as president of America's oldest manufacturer of nursery necessities, Bunny Bear.

There will be no chance in the fall to remind you, so this is the last announcement - don't forget the '67 fall reunion in Hanover over the Holy Cross weekend of October 6-7. These gatherings have been increasing in attendance and enjoyment. Have a relaxing summer and see you in the fall...
