Before we get into news of the alumni a mention first of some of the more significant activities of our faculty. Professor Elbing has written a new book entitled, "The Value Issue in Business." It will be published this spring by McGraw-Hill and will report on Prof. Elbing's three years of research into value questions in the business field. At the recent meetings of the Boston alumni, Prof. Elbing briefly outlined the material in this book and it looks as if it will be extremely interesting.
Prof. Ronald Wippern has just been appointed Consultant for the Ford Foundation office for Latin America. As part of the appointment he recently visited the School of Business Administration at Catholic University in Valparaiso. The appointment involves consulting on matters of curriculum and faculty development. Prof. Wippern will spend the months of June, July, and August in Valparaiso on this assignment. In addition, he will be working with various executive groups in the city.
Looking at the alumni, Edward W. Higbee T'37 has been elected Vice President of the State Society of Certified Public Accountants. William A. Lieson T'33, President of the Valley Bank and Trust Company, has been elected a director of the Monarch Life Insurance Co. Philip E. Benton Jr. T'53 has been appointed General Manager of Ford Motor Company's new Industrial and Chemical Products Division. This Division's purpose is to capitalize on expanding business opportunities arising from the Company's extensive scientific and manufacturing and research activities.
Governor Rockefeller recently announced the appointment of Charles J. Urstadt T'51 as Deputy Commissioner for Operations of New York State's Division of Housing and Community Renewal. Mr. Urstadt has been a Vice President and Secretary-Counsel of Alcoa Residences, Inc. since 1965. RichardH. Greene T'53 has been named an Assistant Vice President of Eaton & Howard, Inc. Mr. Greene, who most recently has been serving as a research associate, joined the firm in 1954 as a Security Analyst. Fred W.Miller T'41 was recently elected Vice President and Controller of Boston Manufacturers Mutual Insurance Company of Waltham. He joined Boston Manufacturers in 1956 as Controller. He is President of the Financial Executives Institute of Boston. Blake W. Irons T'56 has been appointed Investment Officer at the home office of Aetna Life & Casualty in Hartford, Conn. Another T'56, Charles J. Hulsebosch has been elected Treasurer of United Fruit Company. Michael G. Korjeff T'58 has been named Assistant Treasurer of the State Mutual Life Insurance Company of America. He is a member of the Boston Security Analysts Society and a former Director of the Holden Jaycees and former Director of the Holden Citizens Scholarship Foundation.
Frederick Fedeli T'54 has been made Director of the Special Investments Branch and Assistant Treasurer of the State Mutual Life Assurance Co. of America. He resides in Westboro with his wife and three children. John T. A. Price T'58 has been promoted to Second Vice President in the Banking Department at the Northern Trust Co. in Chicago. Robert W. Weinig T'55 of the Eastern Gas & Fuel Associates has just been elected Controller of that company. Eastern Gas & Fuel Associates is the parent organization of a group of operating companies engaged in bituminous coal production and sales, coke and gas production, gas distribution, marine and river barge transportation. Paul J. Caravatt Jr. T'47, former President of Carl Ally, Inc., has been named Board Chairman of the Marschalk Co. Peter J. Shedden T'41, formerly with Lebelon Corp. of Canandaigua and with Rochester Transit Corp., has been named Vice President for Finance at BernzOmatic Corp.
