Dartmouth and nine other colleges have begun discussions about various ways they might cooperate in such areas as exchanges of students, joint urban centers, and graduate programs in teacher training. The other colleges are Amherst, Bowdoin, Connecticut College for Women, Mt. Holyoke, Smith, Vassar, Wesleyan, Wheaton, and Williams.
The student exchanges, which could begin in 1969-70, are proposed primarily for juniors in good standing and could range from a term to a full academic year. The exchange would be intended to increase the educational opportunities for individual students, and the academic program of each student would have to be approved by both institutions. Both men and women students would be eligible for the exchange at any college.
The proposed cooperative program is under study by a Dartmouth faculty committee. Prof. Leonard M. Rieser '44, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, has indicated that 50 or less would probably be the limit for women exchange students at Dartmouth, should the College become a participant.
