Coach Red Hoehn led his charges through a four-game road trip recently, from which they emerged with three victories and one defeat. They dropped a match to Amherst and then went on to beat Trinity, the Hartford Golf Club, and Wesleyan. The order of play in die last match, which Dartmouth won by the convincing margin of 9-1, will give you an idea of the current ranking and composition of the squad. 1 Captain Tom Ringe; 2 Izzy Stahl; 3 Bill Fisher; 4 Dick Hulbert; 5 Rick Austin; 6 Paul Simel; 7 Hunter White; 8 Bob Mauk; 9 Bob Mcllwain; 10 Bob Flanagan.
In the Wesleyan match the only loss was sustained by No. 4 man Dick Hulbert. To date, the bottom five in the squad have shown better records in match play than the upper five. This might be interpreted in terms of easier competition for the men in the lower brackets. It might also be interpreted as indicating better initial material coming to Dartmouth's sister institutions. It might, finally, be interpreted as a tribute to Coach Hoehn, who can develop capable players out of boys who had never played the game before and who can thereby more than hold their own against their similarly ranking opponents from other institutions.
