REUNION — JUNE 17, 18 and 19! Bill Dewey reports that as of the end of January, 110 men say they will definitely attend and be accompanied by 94 wives and 29 children. There are also 52 men who are probables. Many others will have been in touch with Bill by the time these notes appear in print. But if you haven't by now, get on the stick. And if any of you change your minds - either yes or no - be sure to keep Bill posted so that his records will be accurate at all times.

I told you last month that I had a real surprise - a letter from Cal Milans. It was prompted by an article in the Washington Post about Elwood Sager's new ski area, Mattaponi, just 30 minutes from Washington, D.C., at Croom, Md. Two rope tows are available and a snow gun provides manmade snow. There is also a skating rink and for summer recreation there are fishing, boating, riding and tennis with a nine-hole golf course under construction. The property was once the home of Robert Bowie, an early governor of Maryland and the main house was built in 1745. It was named "Mattaponi," an Indian name, only a very few years before Dartmouth's founding as an Indian school a bit farther north. Good luck, Elwood.

Back to Cal's letter — "My wife, Katy, and I celebrate our 29th anniversary this coming year. We have two sons, Steve and Tark. Steve works for I.B.M., is married and his wife, Sue, presented him with a fine little boy, July 1, 1967 so we have our first grandchild. Tark graduated with honors from U. of Maryland last February, is working for Pep Co. and enjoying bachelor quarters. Katy is working part time at the Naval Medical Research Institute in Bethesda as a psychologist running very interesting tests on young Navy men to determine reactions to deep isolation, deprivation, etc. She finds the work very stimulating and rewarding after so many years on the home front. (Reading that last paragraph over, I trust you will make the correct interpretation - Katy's activities at NMRI are strictly professional!) Since Dartmouth and G.W. Law School, I've been involved with patents and trademarks and I see no early retirement but I dream about it from time to time. My best to all." Thanks for writing, Cal, and we'll be looking forward to seeing you and Katy in June.

"Ruth and I are returning from Australia. We came via Hawaii and go home after a week in Tahiti. Fantastic holiday! Bali-Hai.Mel Katz." And the other night in Hanover, Jack Manchester showed me a letter he received from Whip Walser '32 who bumped into Mel and Ruth in Bora Bora on the beach! Small world. The above note was mailed from Takapuna North, N.Z.

Just received this letter from Arthur N. Daniels, president of New Hampshire Ball Bearings, Inc. "Recently, during a few days at Hitchcock Hospital, I remembered a day in June of 1938 when I was reading final exams and working up final grades at the Thayer School as assistant professor. It's a dull and dreary task, with some tough problems. Hell, I can't flunk a nice bird like this. Good guy to have around, and must have learned something. O.K. make it a D. A couple of profs had been kind to me not too long before, too. Well, I knew more interesting activity was going on in the Class of '33 tent on campus, and I crashed. My thanks to your class for the beer and revival of my spirits. There didn't seem to be much action in my own group (Navy '31). Sincerely, A. N. Daniels." I'm writing Art today inviting him to renew acquaintances on June 17, 18 and 19 and suggesting that he can make everything right by buying the beer for us this time!

I mentioned a while back that I had seen Hank McKee in Hanover and promised more about him and his family. He and Virginia have two sons, Bruce, who attended Dartmouth and Jack, who is at Akron U. Bruce and his wife, Ann, are the parents of the only two McKee grandchildren but Jack was married last September - so there may be more later. Hank is corporate marketing Research Director at General Tire & Rubber in Akron and has been active in many marketing trade groups and in the AMA. He is also busy in Hudson, Ohio, as a village councilman, a member of the Board of Zoning Appeals and the Planning Board. He is a charter member and trustee of the Ohio Commodores. Ted Monahan sat directly behind us the other night at the Penn hockey game. He was in Hanover recruiting for Rohm & Haas of which company he is Controller.

Did you see Bob Coulson's letter in the Feb. 2 issue of Time? I think it's worth quoting here. "In the current impasse in Viet Nam, new approaches should be considered: Make an announcement to the U.N., the Viet Cong and the world that we hereby call off all hostilities as of a stated date, but that we will keep an exact count of all casualties suffered by us or our allies during every 24-hour period thereafter. Each day at a stated hour the exact number will be announced. It may be verified by neutral observers. It will be distributed in leaflets to the North, and that will be the number of bombs dropped on North Viet Nam the following day. Meanwhile, we revert to undeclared peace and resume our count. General Ho could control the number of bombs to be dropped on his people every day. The people of the North could have the knowledge that their leaders had intentionally invited whatever suffering they received and could halt it any day they wished." Any comments?

Jeff Davis starts his new career as business manager of Holderness School at Plymouth, N.H., about March 1. This adds to the '33 contingent in the "Hanover area" and we all welcome Bea and Jeff and wish them well.

Through a letter from George Hamilton to Clif Johnson, a copy of which George sent me, I learn that Clif was divorced last year and married on December 15. I have no further information. Jan and Wes Beattie have just returned from three weeks in Hawaii. Jan says, "Happiness is Hawaii!"

Bill Lang, administrative vp and treasurer of U.S. Steel is a member of the Board of the First National State Bank of New Jersey. George Theriault Jr. is engaged to Deborah Gale of Reading, Mass., and will be married in June - Just before Reunion!

Grenoble was not the only "in" resort this season. Dartmouth skiers at Sun Valley forthe annual SVSC reunion included (l to r) Harry Gilmore '34, Reunion ChairmanCarl Gray '23, Lee Chilcote '30, Ralph Roberts '20, and Phez Taylor '21.
