The New York Times of May 2 reported a meeting of Dictaphone sales employees at White Sulphur Springs, W. Va., gathered to receive awards for achievement in 1949. KingWoodbridge, president and chairman of the board, told this group that "the first three months of 1950 were the greatest in the history of the Dictaphone Corporation, in unit volume, in dollar volume, and in profit." This accomplishment in the first quarter of 1950 was cause for King's predicting greater sales of dictating machines than ever before for the current year. There is real satisfaction in giving to the class group this report of the almost instant recognition of the new Time Master Model Dictaphone as one of the most constructive aids to business yet invented. Congratulations, King.
The May 1950 Better Homes and Gardens mentions serving more than 3,400,000 families and on page 373 it presents to those families the picture of a genial member of our group who has scored many successes since he captained the varsity nine. He modestly, as usual, states his proposition, "I'm Don Hobbs ... and I've got good news about automatic oil heating." And that's the truth—he has good news based on 27 years of experience in the business of giving New England people comfortable and carefree winters through the use of Automatic Oil Heating. Don's a warm-hearted guy, and a glutton for work—let him keep you in a Florida atmosphere in ski country.
On Saturday, May 6, Miss Julia Cecilia Frawley and Mr. Philip—Peacham to you—StaplesBlanchard announced their marriage. During all the years we have known him Peacham's devotion to others and his generous response to mutual companionships will develop anew that fine sense of understanding thought which was touchingly shown in the Blanchard-Hil- ton-Herman friendships.
The year just closing has noted the loss of these men of our undergraduate years and the mention of their names here will record our sense of personal loss as well as the satisfactions of our long-time acquaintance: Ben Ailing '02; Ned Burbeck, Bob Davis, Dan Hinckley '03; Stillman Batchellor, Brick Reeve, Harry Preston '05; Ned Herr '06; John Bartlett, Ned's younger brother '11.
Incidentally, Sid Rollins is still shivering and hoping the effect of Florida sun may outlast the low temperatures yet so common to New Hampshire—meantime in his warm study plans are going on for our Hanover Reunion, June 9-10-11.
