Summer has passed all too quickly and here I am again trying to make that fifth-of-the-month deadline. It seems that all I can remember of the summer is of mowing my lawn. At this point I am planning to pave it over and paint it green.

Happily, there is much news from and about you so getting back into the swing of this is fairly easy. I may repeat some of what was in Walt Vail's fine class newsletter, but only for the benefit of some of the other classes who may be interested. Jeff Strayer came over to dinner one night this summer while Sally and the kids were visiting parents. Jeff has agreed to assume the position of Class Program Chairman, the position that was created over Class Officers Weekend. We expect that there will be several fine functions over football weekends and plan to work together with the class of '57. We'll have more information for you in Walt's next newsletter.

I braved the traffic to the Cape twice this summer and spent some time with MelAlperin and Joe Slotnik. Mel plays a mean game of tennis; after two days and eleven sets I took my tired feet and slightly elongated right arm home for some rest. When he is not wiping people off the court Mel is president of Carol Cable Co., a division of Avnet Corp. Rumor has it that Joe and Sandy Slotnik are training hard for the National Water Ski Championship. They have both become accomplished waterskiers and I was able to pick up some good pointers from them.

I've had coffee a few times with Gary Finerty who as you read in Walt's letter is vice-president of Marketing Personnel Consultants of Wellesley, "The Placement Firm for Sales and Marketing Personnel." I'm told that business is good and there is even a little time to get out on the golf course. Another new business formation involves Joel Portugal who is a principal of Anspack, Grossman, Portugal, Inc., Consultants in Marketing Communications and Design. For those of you whose image needs improvement the firm has offices in the Time & Life Building in Rockefeller Center, New York. Their area of emphasis is described as "Counsel to industry in corporate identification, image analysis, communications planning, name development, brand positioning, package and product design environmental systems." I understand that projections are being met and that the company is well on the way to success.

Catching up on some old news. ... Dr.Frank Gado has advanced from assistant to associate professor of English at Union College in Schenectady, N. Y. During the summers of 1961 through 1965 Bob was director of a private tutoring school in Tuftonboro, N. H. Bob and his wife Fenton have two children, Jonathan 7, and Dabney, 5.

Jim Willing has been elected vice president institutional sales of Boston brokerage firm Hornblower & Weeks-Hemphill, Noyes.

All kinds of good news for Jerry andKathy Green. . . . They have adopted a son Keith Edward, born May 2. The J. I. Case Co. has promoted Jerry to the post of financial vice-president. He was previously corporate controller. Kathy writes that these events keep Jerry traveling more and her at home. Jerry hopes to make it in for the Yale game.

I look forward to seeing many of you this fall at some good football weekends. Drop me a line and let me know what you're doing. We're all interested and also don't mind giving some free plugs for those new enterprises.
