A note from a “friend of the Class of 1967” informed us that Tom Mauet was awarded a juris doctor degree in commencement exercises at Northwestern University School of Law in Chicago. Tom is undecided as to where he wants to practice, and therefore took both the Illinois and Slew York Bar examinations.
Last May 16, Stephen and Susan Hanley became the parents of a 7 lb. 12 oz. baby girl, named Katherine Woods. Early this past summer, Steve graduated from BU Law and took the Massachusetts Bar. This fall, he goes on active duty in the Army Signal Corps.
After graduation three long years ago, Don Wehrung left for Palo Alto, Calif., and Stanford where he received a master’s degree in operations research. He then spent two years as a commissioned officer with the Public Health Service in lieu of military service. Currently, he plans to return to Stanford to work for his Ph.D. and settle down with the former Sandy Campbell, his bride of last June 25.
Last February, Harold Bernt, then an Army lieutenant, was ordered dismissed from the Army for refusing to serve in Vietnam. While serving as an ordnance officer, Hal had requested conscientious objector status. However, this had been denied and when he refused to go to Vietnam, he was court martialed. He received a dishonorable discharge and a maximum penalty of six months’ confine- ment.
Among the winners of the 1970 Reynolds Scholarships was Henry Polin. He is using his award to do research in Swedish literature in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Army Lieut. Charles Farnum has been awarded the Bronze Star medal for his work in Vietnam as a contracting officers repre- sentative.
The chairman of the math department at KUA, Jim Coakley, was married last June to the former Susan Gantz (Smith ’7O).
Jeff Alperin has been named senior systems programmer in the corporate data processing center at the Hartford, Conn., office of Aetna Life and Casualty Cos.
Marriage is in the near future for HughFreund and Andrea Peterson (Skidmore). Hugh recently finished law school at N.Y.U. Andrea is a fashion coordinator for John Weitz, designer of men’s clothing in NYC.
After returning from Vietnam, Marine Lieut. Warren Cook was married to the former Louise King (George Washington U.) last June. Currently, Warren is working in admissions and teaching at his alma mater—the Groton School.
Thomas Grove and Marolyn Laßosa (Glassboro State College) will soon marry. Tom is currently an Air Force pilot stationed at McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey.
This past summer, William MacCarty spent eight weeks investigating prehistoric Indian and Eskimo sites in the Hudson Bay region approximately 600 miles north of Montreal with Professor Elmer Harp, Jr., chairman of the College’s anthropology department. This fall. Bill returns to Harvard Med where he is in his last year.
Our class has produced at least three doctors already. Among Harvard’s 1970 graduating class are Robert Thurer, who is interning in surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital; Edward Walkley, intern- ing in pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Boston; and AndrewSaunders (formerly Simon), also interning in surgery at Mass. General.
Cory Wansbury, in his fourth year at the USC School of Medicine, was one of 29 American medical students selected to receive Smith, Kline, and French Foreign Fellowships from the Association of Ameri- can Medical Colleges. Cory spent three months at a missionary hospital in Thailand.
Another couple joining the June marriage bandwagon was Michael Seely and the former Janice Nelson. Mike is an account executive with John de Nigris Associates, a public relations firm in NYC. Janice is a graduate student at Montclair College.
September 13 saw Lawrence Bowen marry the former Sharleen Erickson (Stam- ford Hospital School of Nursing). Lawrence is entering his fourth year at Tufts University School of Medicine.
Before graduating from Duke Law School last June, Rodney Eshelman married the former Luray Lindgren (Duke ’6B). Present- ly. Rodney is beginning a four-year hitch with the U. S. Naval Judge advocate general’s corps. Luray is completing work for a master’s degree in anatomy at Duke in conjunction with her work as a physical therapist.
Charles Morgan and the former Nancy Tannenbaum (Stephens College) also took the vows last June. Charles is associated with the child guidance clinic at Fort Devens, Mass. He plans to resume his doctoral studies at the University of Washington in the department of sociology.
Michael Tucker was one of 54 architec- ture, urban planning, and architectural technology students and graduates at the Columbia School of Architecture to receive a William Kinne Fellow Summer Scholar- ship. The awards are given to students for travel and study.
