We have received a few replies to our appeal for information and they make up the bulk of this column. However, there are still many of you who haven't written.
We were treated recently to a detailed letter from Robert Mann describing the delights of Sydney, Australia. Bob arrived "down-under" on August 2 for a minimum two-year hitch with the Reader's Digest Statistics Department. He seems to be sold on Australia and the people - especially the young ladies. Second Lieutenant John Talbott writes from Vietnam where he is a rifle platoon leader with the First Cavalry Division operating in the area close to Cambodia. John joined the Army in May, 1968 after trying his hand at various pursuits. Officer Candidate School and a short stint at Fort McClellan, Ala., preceded his departure for Vietnam.
John's letter, as have many others we have received from Vietnam, included an appeal for mail from friends back home. Christmastime brought a card from Hayden Young with the information that he had been promoted to Specialist 4 and given a job as a personnel specialist at Camp Evans, Vietnam. Dan Gould wrote recently of his exploits at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. Last spring, he and Don Bergman founded "Ariel," a bi-weekly, independent, successful (!) medical school newspaper published for the med school community. However, the editorships have since passed on to younger blood, as both Dan and Don have moved on to some of the more serious business of life.
Dan has become engaged to Frances Ostrum (UPenn '67) who works as an administrative assistant for the Franklin Institute. They plan a March, 1970 wedding. Don will marry Susan Menin (UPenn '68) this June.
After receiving an M.S. in physical chemistry at the University of Minnesota last June, Hank Ingersoll switched career goals and is now back in Hanover as a first-year student at Dartmouth Med. Hank is also kept busy by his son, Christopher Todd, born last March 17.
Bruce Chasan finished work on his master's degree at the University of Oregon in March, 1969, then took six months to make a cross-country trip and arrived in Boston in time to enroll in the Boston College Law School this past fall.
The nuclear powered submarine "Francis Scott Key," which sails out of Groton, Conn., has two sons of Dartmouth on board - Lt. Jeff Richardson and John Eishold '68. Jeff's wife Linda wrote about the newest addition to the Richardson family - Scott Jeffery, who weighed in at 8 lbs. 2 oz. last June 13.
After a tour of duty in Germany with the Army, Jim Rooks is back in Hanover finishing up.
The Anthropology Department at the College publishes a newsletter on the current activities of its former majors. Weve taken the liberty to use their newsletter as an information source on '67's.
Jon Hanlon is in his third year at Temple Medical School. Mike Hoebel and wife Carolyn are at the University of British Columbia where Mike is continuing research on rotifers and teaching two courses in biology.
After spending a frustrating year as camp director for a settlement house, Bob Evans moved to greener pastures and is now coordinator of student activities of the Mansfield campus of Ohio State.
While waiting to hear about the fate of his applications to graduate programs in anthropology, Chris Fueloep-Miller took a nine-week training course and is now a nursing assistant at the Palo Alto Veterans' Hospital on the night shift.
